The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB
Isabelle Fuhrman
Appearance:
Shock was a small girl with dark brown eyes who was once holding the appearance of an undead witch. Her skin had been gray and paled a ghastly white, her narrow almond-shaped eyes ringed with dark blue makeup that most resembled bruises. Her lips were also a pale blue in color and her teeth were pointed slightly, and her hair was a dark blue; thin, wiry and unkempt underneath a very tall purple witch's hat. To complete her costume, she wore a pink and purple dress rimmed with tatters, black stockings and boots, and a ghastly green witch's mask with a pointed nose over her own similarly structured face.
Upon shifting, it seems that a lot more living color has been brought into her features. Her hair is a dark curtain of waves with curl and is not dead-looking as her former hair had been. Her face of course is no longer a pale ghoulish gray, and is in fact a fair-skinned flesh-color, though she still will wear her previous makeup and eyeliner around her eyes to give her what she thinks is a more startling appearance. Her light skin contrasted with her dark hair and eyes, however, do give her a paler appearance than most others. Her stature remains slightly taller than the average height for her age, but only by an inch or so, and there are certainly others who are taller. She is thin in frame and still continues to wear her hat and carry or wear a mask regardless of the other outfits she might wear with them, and absolutely refuses to put them aside. Her style is definitely dark and grim as a reflection of where she is from. She does like the color purple, but she finds the colored clothing here to be much to cheerful for her liking, and so if she does go for a color, she will go for the darkest, possibly dullest one she can find. Her usual outfit tends to be a long-sleeve dark jacket or shirt, jeans or black leggings and dark black boots that reach mid-thigh.
This girl holds herself more expressively and is not very reserved in nature. She will often react to things with full on gestures, even if it means pointing directly at someone or skipping over so that she is talking right to their face. She isn't very considerate of other people's personal space, and possibly just disregards it at times. Doing so can make her seem a bit obnoxious.
Personality:
Mischievous is often the first trait that would be used to describe Shock. She is so used to her former life where tricking and playing pranks on people were what she was known for, and certainly continues to do so for her own enjoyment. This, of course, comes at the risk of others, as she never usually weighed the seriousness or outcomes of some of her little harmless pranks. In Halloween Town, though, it should be noted that all of the residents there were in fact dead, or monster-like beings, and their idea of harmless enjoyment often meant creepier and more dangerous things than a normal person might find amusement in.
Because of this, she also has a fascination for all things dark, scary, monstrous, or otherwise dead. That might be hinted to others simply based on her dark appearance and Halloween getup, but a person would not truly know how odd she might seem in this world until they get a chance to meet her. She is convinced that the scarier something or someone is, the more highly regarded they should be, and clearly seems fixated on this idea. She has a repulsion to anything too cute and girly, finding it to be awful in general. The closest she will come to it is wearing darkly colored bows or ties to pin back her hair, though they usually end up hidden under her mask or hat anyhow.
Shock is also cunning, as displayed in comparison to her self-deemed "cohorts" Lock and Barrel. She was usually the one to help come up with the details of the plans, as well as to break up the other two from stalling it by fighting with one another. She also is a bit self-assured, as she often referred to herself as leader of the group, despite Lock being the actual leader. She did, however, look to Oogie Boogie as a sort of role model in tricking, and so it is likely that she might resort to following someone else if she deems them to be a worthy of enough person to follow by her standards, or if she feels that they are to be feared and/or respected, depending on the figure. She is definitely more drawn to the people who are considered bad influences here rather than the good ones.
She is very outspoken, and not usually in the good way. People in general can be either annoyed by her or possibly outright insulted if she finds she dislikes them. Having an obnoxious personality often reveals her immaturity, if the pranking and other behaviors haven't convinced people already. Aside from that, she generally likes to be wherever the action is around town, and is not one for sitting around quiet situations.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History:
Shock, along with Lock and Barrel, were the tricksters of Halloween Town and spent a lot of their time wherever they could make the most mischief. Most of this involved pranks that were relatively harmless, but annoying to the general monster population of Halloween Town. They gained quite a reputation for being trouble-makers, and as such, figures like the Mayor preferred it when they weren't around. They were a little too hard to keep an eye on and restrain from causing havoc.
The trio eventually became the henchman of Oogie Boogie, despite their young ages. Shock enjoyed that they could cause mischief whenever they wanted and that Oogie promoted it, and she prided herself in doing his tasks in order to get on his good side. To her and possibly the others, he was like an evil role model and possibly a sort of guardian, in a sense, when they didn't anger him too much. It didn't mean she was completely loyal to him though, as she seemed to go with wherever or whoever would allow her to make the most mischief, and that included helping Jack kidnap Sandy Claws in order to let Jack take over Christmas.
She and the others had first attempted the task, only to fail after they had stumbled into the wrong holiday door, causing them to bring back the Easter Bunny instead of Sandy Claws. Jack had been angry at them, and after scaring them with his best terrifying face, she, Lock and Barrel raced off into Christmas Town in order to kidnap the real Sandy Claws. This time, for sure.
Key Moment: She was taken right after her, Lock and Barrel had captured Sandy Claws.

Shock giggled maniacally as she helped Lock and Barrel drag the heavy burlap sack that was covering Sandy Claws. That trick had been too easy, and just the look of pure surprise and astonishment on the bearded man’s face was enough to make her laugh. He sure hadn’t seen that one coming! Now, all they had to do was take him back to Jack, and won’t he be pleased at their new success! This time, she was positive that they had the right one…
“Hey, What gives! You guys, we’ve got to pull harder! I’m not doing all the work around here!” The small girl struggled to pull at the heavy rope. Boy, Sandy Claws was much heavier than she had thought he would be, and very round. It would be a wonder if they could even lift him into their walking bathtub to get him back to Halloween Town.
“Urf!” Suddenly her hands slipped and she half stumbled, half rolled forward into the snow as she lost hold of it. “Oh, shut up!” She spat as she picked herself up, immediately expecting to hear the laughter of Lock and Barrel behind her at her expense. Surprisingly though, she heard nothing. How weird… they were never this quiet!
As the girl looked up and around, she suddenly realized that the white cold stuff was gone. This place was a lot stranger than any place she had seen; not dead, dark and gray like Halloween Town, but not blindingly white and obnoxiously flashy like Christmas Town. The ground was just sort of… green. That was all she could think of to describe it. Green like a radioactive frog, or like bright oozing slime, only when she reached down to touch it, it didn’t feel like slime at all! It felt kind of like the dead plants and brush at home. “How stupid! It would be much better if it were gray, or actually slimy,” she thought at loud as she wrinkled her nose slightly.
“Excuse me Miss-“ A voice suddenly sounded from behind her.
“WAAAH!” Shock spun around in alarm as she found herself looking up at a tall man in a black suit. He looked kind of like Jack in her opinion with his outfit… only he had skin and a face instead of visible bones and a skull. Her expression shifted to a scowl behind her green plastic mask.
“Hey, don't sneak up on me like that when you’re not even scary at all! Next time, wear a mask, or take off your head instead. That would be much more frightening!” She nodded, her witch’s hat tilting slightly on top of her head. She raised a hand to adjust it and keep it from falling off.
“I’m sorry… I didn’t mean to startle you, Miss-“
“Shock. What type of name is Miss? That is not scary. That sounds like a bad name for a monster, and not the good kind of bad. Unless it means Missing Head or Missing Eye, though that wouldn't be scary enough,” Shock declared as she pointed a finger at the man. He clearly had a thing or two to learn about scaring.
“Ok, Shock then…” The man looked a little thoughtful, but then returned to his previous smiling state, “Well Shock, you realize that you are not in your world anymore?” He asked her calmly.
“Yes, it is too green and not creepy, but not like the other place either. And there aren’t any giant pink bunnies here either that I can see,” Shock replied matter-of-factly. Separate worlds weren’t really a surprise, when her and the others had just spent a few hours traveling back and forth between holidays in the forest. “But- where did Lock or Barrel go? Did they get themselves lost again? I told them not to wander off! Stupid cohorts! They wouldn't get anywhere without me,”
“I’m sorry to say, but they aren’t here yet that I know of. They may turn up soon, or not at all, but don’t you worry; we’ll get you back to where you belong.” The suit explained automatically, then raised an eyebrow, “Pink bunnies…? You’re right, there are no pink bunnies here that I know of… this is Tenebrae, and it is where you will live until we can find a way for you to get back home.”
“Tentabrains? That sounds frightening!” The girl’s face brightened and she grinned as she pulled off her mask. Tentabrains sounded a lot grosser than Halloween Town, so maybe it wouldn’t be such an odd place after all. “Do you eat brains here all the time?" She wondered what type of brains. Rat brains? Bats? …Did they eat each other's brains like zombies? That would be so cool and terrifying at the same time.
“No, not Tentabrains… Tenebrae. And no, we don’t eat brains, we eat food.” The man scratched his head at the odd question, then just shook his head dismissively, “Oh well- you’ll find out all about it soon. In the meantime, make yourself at home. The dorms are just down this path, and beyond that, there is a whole town to see."
