The Grand Application of the Shifted
Why have an application process at all?
First of all, an application process is a good way for us to control and keep track of who is playing which characters, to ensure there aren't any duplicates running around, and for us to generally get a feel for the people we're here to play with.
Secondly, we have a certain format and standard of writing, and though we're more than willing to help people improve and to accept people who are new to RPing, we need to know that people are going to be able to keep up with this.
And finally, we want to give our players the best game possible, including the best people to write with. We don't bite, and we rarely deny someone outright, but the application gives us a chance to see if you can work with us, even if you're new.
Why have a form?
The application serves as a character bio, it's an excellent reference for people you're playing with. Given that this is a multifandom game, it's helpful for people to be able to read up on characters if they're from a canon they aren't familiar with. To ensure everybody has given at least the basic information, we ask for the app.
So what do I need to know?
The majority of the sections in the application form are relatively straightforward, and for most of the rest, just replace the instructions in the brackets with the requested information. Not sure about something? Don't be afraid to ask! We love answering questions!
To apply, just create a new thread in the application area and post your completed app.
Also: please don't begin posting IC until you've been accepted by the staff! We'll make sure to get right on it, because we want to see you RPing too!
We've also provided some applications that work as samples for the kind of stuff we're looking for.
Twilight Sparkle is one of the staff's characters and is actually a little more than we need for an app.
Kale Guttormr is an example of a relatively minor character fleshed out (with amnesia).

Should match your profile name.
If your character doesn't have a first and last name, make one up for them,
or ask the staff to! And remember: the name should fit the character. If your char is
Greek, your character's name should be Greek, etc.]

description, how do they hold themselves? What sort of clothes do they
were? Are they very expressive or more closed off?
Remember this is the first time they've been a real, non-animated person,
so how does that look? How have they changed?

[b]Personality[/b]: [We'd like at least a good couple of paragraphs for this,
so we can judge how good a grasp you have of the character. You could
talk about their general attitude towards life, how they are around
strangers, is that different to what they're like once they get to know
somebody? This is all the sort of thing we'd like to know.]

[b]History[/b]:
[Given the potential memory loss, this can be a bit of a problem.
We would prefer 2-3 paragraphs of history, but there are several ways of doing this:
If your character remembers everything, please just give us their history
up until they Shifted. For lesser-known characters, it is entirely
appropriate (and good) to flesh out their history beyond what the source
tells us.
If your character remembers only parts or none of their
history, there are two options, firstly you can detail their history as
normal and afterwards note how much of this they remember themselves, or
secondly you can only provide the details they remember. If you choose
the latter, please write out their entire history separately and send it
to a staff member so we have a note of it.]
[b]Key Moment[/b]: [Immediately before they were taken, this only needs to be a couple of sentences,
just to give us a rough idea. If you'd like to link it to a
canon-point, that would be very helpful for canonmates coming
afterwards. It's not required to match canon-points, but it's a good
thing to know.]

All new characters start from their arrival in this world, so this
serves as a character introduction as well as an RP sample. Where did
they end up? Is there anybody around? Do they resist the staff? In this
instance you have permission to NPC the staff members, remember that
they would initially be polite, friendly, and offering of help, and only
become firmer if the shifted resists.
