Event: Welcome Barbecue

Luffy had a bad habit of switching moods on a dime and the moment between losing his shirt and puke guy yelling about the living cakes was no exception. His jaw that had been clenched in anger suddenly relaxed to make way for an expression of confusion. A bit of air escaped his lungs to make a slight noise that acted as a verbal note of his bafflement. Luffy blinked at the cakes as they began to jump about and struggled to get past how delicious they looked, though he knew there was something more important here to focus on. Most everyone else at the part seemed to either be poking at their new clothing or gawking at the cakes as well, making remarks about their living nature. Luffy continued to stare, mouth slightly open and brain buzzing as he struggled to focus on the real issue in the moment until a group of vicious desserts flung themselves in his direction.

WAAAAHHH Luffy yelped as he clumsily stood and barely dodged the oncoming attack. Clinging to his hat, Luffy watched as the tasty snacks zoomed by, got smart, and began to head back in his direction. THESE THINGS ARE ALIVE?! Luffy shouted, just in case it wasn't already extremely obvious and had already been confirmed long ago. Without thinking, the rubber man punched one of the treats and it splattered all about. Bringing his frosting covered hand to his face, he sniffed it, licked it, then felt a wild grin stretch across his face.

They were delicious.

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO! Luffy cheered as the cakes attacked. He jumped into the air and let a few bit of laughter ring through the air before he got 'serious' and went after the attacking meal. Luffy suddenly spirited toward the nearest bulky looking suit, leapt into the air, then used the man as a wall to shove off of an propel him into the air. Laughing in a manic manner, Luffy opened his mouth and closed his mouth around a stray cookie. So excited about having got this far, the rubbery teen just sort of slammed into the ground in the middle of the chaos to create a slight crater. Feeling a lot more like himself than he had before he'd been hit by the ray of light, the fall barely hurt at all and Luffy stood almost immediately. With a huge grin still on his face he went on the hunt again.

[Megara Argyris]

Meg wouldn't have said she'd been pouting this whole time, but she'd really been pouting this whole time. With a dark scowl on her face, she'd been sulking on the sidelines, refusing to participate in the merriment. She did appreciate some guy getting thrown up on, however, and the stupid people dancing was amusing enough. Still, if the staff tried to make her dance they had another thing coming, thankfully they only seemed to care that she was there. The second she saw an out, though, she was planning on escaping. Parties like this weren't really what Meg considered fun. There wasn't even anything good to drink and it was too bright out and everyone was happy. Ugh. Call her a vampire, but Meg had spent so long in the darkness that extended periods in the sun kind of burned. It made her eyes hurt and she was starting to get a headache. This was stupid, why couldn't she just....wait did that guy just leave?! They were letting people leave this whole time?! Meg was just about to march back to her house when she was suddenly aware of her lack of clothing.

Her back had been turned from the beam when it struck so she had had no chance of seeing it coming and now...she was in her underwear. Well something close to it...she was pretty sure the underwear she had put on this morning was not purple like what she was wearing now. In fact, she was wearing completely different underwear now. What the hell?! It was stringy and revealing her midriff and felt like a second skin. Why? Why had this happened? What even was this? Meg turned to find that most everyone else had been changed as well. She grit her teeth to keep from blushing over the fact that she felt so underdressed. Hades had made her wearing something similar on several occasions, but that didn't mean she liked it any better now. Then, to top it all off, the cakes started to fly at people and attack or something. Some kind was jumping around trying to eat them all.

Forget this. Meg was one hundred percent done with everything at this point, especially when a cupcake landed landed on her stomach and the kid that had vomited on someone earlier grabbed it off her and shoved it in his mouth without so much as a word.

So. Done.

[Kori Ander]

Kori did look down and witness her own beachwear. This was hardly
something that bothered her, however. In point of fact, this felt more
like what she had worn back home than what they'd put on her.
Tamaraneans were, after all, known for their free thinking regarding 
how much body to be shown. It was only Earthlings that were caught up in
that sort of display. Kori quickly remembered, however, that they had
been hit by a mysterious ray. Even if she hadn't, the screams all around
her would likely have reminded her.

"Friend Jasmine, look out!"
Kori shouted, waving her hands. The swarm of brownies had drifted toward
them, hovering about and attacking in a manner very much similar to
bats. Kori waved wildly, slapping at them with the hope of knocking them
off course. She knew that she should have better responses to this, but
food was rather unusual...

though, come to think of it, Kori had fought food stuff before.

"From
where did all this come from!?" she yelled while moving to try and
defend Jasmine. Kori, after all, had combat training and years of
experience. Jasmine, as far as Kori knew, was simply a normal girl, a
princess, even, and therefore likely needed as much protecting as Kori
could give. Especially as many of the others were slinking away or
cowering. Though there was one strange person wearing a hat who seemed
to be eating the desserts...

Jasmine heard Kori's shout and looked towards her. What she found was a swarm of flying brownies. Very delicious-looking brownies. And she was feeling pretty hungry. She didn't even notice how they were attacking, she was too busy looking at them with hungry eyes. Jasmine licked her lips at the thought of how delicious they would be. "Thanks for telling me about them, Kori," she yelled. She reached up and plucked a stray one from the sky. She took a little bite and loved it. She stuffed the rest in her mouth and reached up to grab two more that had flown over.

After she had stuffed both of them in her mouth, she began to feel pretty weird. And that wasn't the only thing. Now more brownies had come over and were attacking her. Jasmine swatted at them as best she could, but they were overwhelming her. "Kori, help," she said as she crouched down to try to get away from the brownies. It didn't work, but she did manage to swat a few of them from the air, but most of them flew right back into the thick of things.

[Helena Bertinelli]

Against all probability, Hiro somehow managed to have a weapon. Helena turned to look at him, noting that he had managed to avoid the light ray. She wondered what sort of skills he'd used to do that, since it hadn't exactly been moving particularly slow. And since he was drawing out a pair of katanas, it appeared that he had some sort of skill. He also seemed perfectly capable of assisting, even if he was a bit slow to the draw. He certainly managed to dispatch the first cake with precision, even if it resulted in his clothes being even further destroyed.

Still, that seemed the better approach than their former rescue patient. She wasn't exactly interested in eating a platter of desserts, even if she wasn't interested in keeping her figure. Those cookies looked more than a little dry from her perspective.

So instead of trying to eat anything, she struck out at a cookie that came flying at her, splitting it into crumbs. She watched the other cake as it began stalking some of the other children. She glanced around for any sort of useful tool and eventually settled on a pair of tongs lying on the table. Snatching them up, she raced after the cake and threw the utensils into the center. Ducking to avoid potential spewage (she'd learned a little from watching Hiro), she slid under the cake and punched upward, ripping a hole through the center. Pieces of cake and clumps of frosting fell on her anyway, and she frowned. "Well there goes the makeup," she said, throwing another punch.

Looking around, though, she couldn't tell that the desserts were doing any real damage. They might be running into people, but even a cookie whirling at top speed could only do so much damage before it split itself into crumbs. And what was the cake going to do? Eat people back? In any case, the cakes seemed to be out of commission now. Overall, the situation looked like it could be pretty well handled, since the people who were afraid had run off and those who weren't were busy fighting and eating.

Helena dropped her hands to her sides. "I didn't see a villain," she said to herself, glancing around. "But this could be part of a larger attack. The first step is probably to clear away the civilians. That's what I'd be expected to do, anyway..." But it was really the only thing she could think of that would make sense.

"Go home," she said to the people nearest her. "The party's over. It's time to go. Besides, I don't want whatever happens next to actually kill anyone. Everyone should probably just leave." And with that, she went back to where she'd kicked off her cheap flip-flops and picked them up between two fingers. Not that she'd ever wear the hideous things; she didn't like littering.

"I'm heading back to my house. Since it looks like you are all under control here."

[Rainbow Dash]

It worried Rainbow more than she cared to admit that this wasn't magic. Magic was something they'd dealt with, and Twilight had always been good at figuring it out. But if this wasn't magic...well, what was it? And would they be able to do anything without the rest of the gang? Rainbow of everyone knew how important it was to have your friends stand with you--it was what she prided herself in, and it was what she respected most in all of her friends. But there wasn't time to worry right now; she had to do work.

"Food fight!" she screamed, karate-chopping at an incoming cookie. Maybe she had a weird body now, but she still knew how to punch things. What she couldn't do, though, was use some of her favorite fighting techniques, including flying around and hitting things from the top or behind as well as the rear-leg kick. She didn't think she'd have the balance to do a lot of kicking in this body. Instead, she batted away another cookie.

"Twilight, we have to rescue the dancers!" She raced around the dance arena, hitting at desserts and not caring when they exploded all over her. It was actually starting to get almost fun, and she was just about to say that they should do something like this more often, when one of the other people (Rainbow didn't know her name) said that something else might happen to make things worse and it could get dangerous.

Now Rainbow didn't like to admit fear, but that didn't mean she didn't feel it. At the same time, how could she just abandon everyone here? She darted over to Twilight's side. She noticed that she was running a little faster than she'd been able to before. More like the old Dash. It gave her a little more confidence. "I think we should stay here to get rid of all the problems. We can't let anyone else get hurt." She jumped up about three feet in the air to catch a cookie in her mouth. "These cookies are actually pretty good!" she said, spraying crumbs across her friend. "We can probably just eat everything. I'm still feeling pretty hungry. And look, that guy's already helping." She pointed across the field at a guy in a big straw hat. "I'm going to keep trying to get rid of everything. Let me know if you have any big ideas before I'm done. Good luck with that." Getting rid of obnoxious flying objects? Wasn't that exactly her job description at home?

[Ichiro Yoshi]

Hiro didn't have time to dodge this one. Rays of light that changed clothes? No problem. Unexpected attacks of lethal force? No sweat. Vomiting cakes that sprayed icing and sugar? He was doomed. Within moments, Hiro was all but covered in the avalanche. He reached up to wipe free his eyes, blinking owlishly as he looked around. Things were not looking that great. True, the desserts didn't appear to be doing much beyond inflicting some light wounds and scaring people, but they were bound to start panicking at any moment. That second cake should....

should be going down. Hiro almost whistled as he watched Bertinelli-sensei destroy the cake in a few slick moves. A bouncy boy appeared to be handling others, a pair of girls sort of dealing with brownies, and another pair of girls with wild hair batting off cookies. That still left several people practically screaming. Hiro just barely heard Bertinelli-sensei's instruction: get the civilians out of there. he nodded confidently in her direction, just a bare nod, and moved toward the ring.

"everyone!" he called, waving one frosting coated sword into the air, "head this way! I'll hold them off for you! If you're not fighting desserts, get out while you still can!"

With that, he moved to hold his ground, gripping both weapons. He could still feel bits of cake dripping off him, and his weapons were still mostly coated. But as a pair of cookies drew close, he managed to slice them neatly in half with two quick blows. Hiro might not be able too remember much, but he clearly remembered how to use his weapons. He swung one a little, jerking his head for people to start milling out past him.

[NPC]

The ray didn't seem to be stopping any time soon. It kept lancing its way through the crowd, zapping any desserts and foodstuffs left over. It almost seemed like as soon as people knocked down various desserts, more rose to take their place. Anyone with half a thought knew that they'd have to figure out where the ray was coming from and put a stop to it.

Though the efforts of the Shifted were certainly not for naught. Both cakes were down for the count. The one Hiro had slashed couldn't stabilize after losing so much of its center. It wound up sliding off into two separate pieces after an inordinate amount of wiggling and jiggling. The one Helena had so artfully disintegrated was only so much fluff and icing now.

The cookies, however, were rallying, seeming to form into ranks and attacking. True, they were meeting quite stiff resistance, but they seemed more than capable of staving off the attacks. They were proving to be far more agile than most of the other desserts, whizzing about effortlessly, zinging around the dance floor and actually managing to hurt people when they connected.

Unlike the eclairs. None of them could stand before the Great Devourer, a.k.a. Monkey D. Luffy. If anything, the desserts seemed to be utterly terrified of him, far more so than of even Hiro or Helena. They veered about, seeming to struggle to escape his wrath.

The brownies had reached the dance floor and were now moving to harass Kori and Jasmine in force. While not as agile as the cookies, they seemed to have more bite, and they darted about like hovering copters.

And it seemed that a jello mold was now wiggling and jiggling its way off the table. Something would have to be done about the ray if this was to ever stop...

[Twilight Sparkle]

It did seem like several people were finding more of their truer selves, from the heroic antics of Ms. Bertinelli to the apparent ninja revival of Hiro Yoshi to the rubbery antics of Monkey D. Luffy, though Twilight didn't recogize any of those. she did recognize that her friend Rainbow Dash seemed just a hair faster than she'd been before ,and that her kicks and chops were very reminiscent of the same moves that Twilight had seen Rainbow use time and time again. The unicorn girl even felt a little lighter herself. She nodded to Rainbow, then looked to the ninja boy, who seemed to be doing a decent job of shepherding people away. Especially with the teacher following suit.

"Right," said Twilight, swinging back to look to Rainbow. "You keep them off. Someone needs to figure out where the ray's coming from, or else we're all in trouble." And Twilight tried to do just that. It wasn't hard to notice the blue ray that worked its way through the people, granting beachwear and dessert life wherever it hit. Twilight followed its trajectory, looking toward what appeared to be a roof some distance away.

"There!" she yelled, pointing. "There's something up there! And... I think there's someone!"

She squinted, trying to get a better look. It was hard to focus too much, because the desserts were still hovering nearby, taking advantage of the non-moving person.

[NPC]

There was indeed someone on the roof, briefly visible as he paused to look down over the devastation in the park. He seemed to be dressed in dark clothing, a mask hiding his identity - even if it could be determined from this far away anyway. He didn't stay standing for long, leaping agilely across rooftops in the direction the beam was coming from.

If anybody was paying attention, they'd see him strike a dramatic pose as he reached a particular rooftop before disappearing from view. Sounds of excitable conversation followed - too quiet to hear what was going on, particularly over the noise of the still attacking desserts. What could be heard, quite clearly, was the sound of an explosion, accompanied by a bright flash of light from the rooftop and the beam shutting off abruptly

The figure reappeared, leaping off the edge of the building and firing a line off to the next one, swinging away into the distance even as the apparent effects of his work took place.

The desserts fell, as one, to the ground, looking for all the world like they'd never been animate at all - albeit distinctly less appetising after their fall. Nothing seemed to have been done about the beachwear issue, but at least the homicidal desserts had been defeated.

[Kori Ander]

Like most of her fellow Shifted, Kori was beginning to feel bits of her old self roaring to the forefront. Unlike most of them, that self was drastically different from the bubbly girl that she so often displayed. She was nearly brutal as she knocked aside the various fluttering brownies. Kori actually snatched one, ripped off his wings without thinking twice about it, and threw him violently to the ground. Eating them hadn't even occurred to her, for some reason.

When she heard Jasmine calling for her, Kori practically flew to the rescue. That's not just the expression: she literally nearly flew over, her feet seeming to barely touch the ground as she crossed the distance. Within moments, her fists were bashing aside the brownies with almost undo wrath. There seemed to be a slight green glow about them too, the same glow that seemed to be emanating from her eyes. Kori even yelled as she punched more brownies from the sky, turning to face Jasmine.

"You are okay, friend Jasmine?" she asked, breathing heavily. A ring of destroyed brownies surrounded her. Before Kori could ask much more, she heard someone calling and she turned to look. Within moments, the ray had ceased, and everything seemed to be settling down, though they were still wearing their bathing suits...

Jasmine was amazed at how quickly Kori had come to her aid. There had been quite a few brownies to fend off, but it hadn't taken Kori nearly as long as Jasmine would have expected. And the glow about the girl was new. Was she regaining her alien abilities? That would be great. But what if everyone was getting their powers back? Wouldn't that leave Jasmine as one of the few normal humans hear. Then she would be completely unremarkable to the others. She shook her head. She couldnt' think like that. The friends she had met here would stay her friends, no matter the fact that she had no powers.

"I'm fine, thanks to you," Jasmine said with a smile, all her bad thoughts disippating, "I think we should get out of here now. The barbeque appears to be over." She started laughing, even though it wasn't particularly funny. It had just bubbled to the surface, seemingly from nowhere. Maybe she was still a little funky after those strange living brownies she had eaten.
