The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB
Lea Michele
Appearance: Twilight has purple hair. It's the first thing anyone is going to notice about her, so let's get that out of the way right now. It's a deep, lush purple color that somehow manages to look natural. And yes, the pink streak that lances through it is also quite natural. She can't explain why exactly her hair stayed the same color whereas the rest of her turned a completely normal, human, Caucasian color. It's likely to do with the abundance of magic she possessed prior to her shift, which insisted on manifesting itself through wild hair and wide eyes.
Outside of that, she looks almost meek. For Twilight is, above all else, a nerd. Which means that clothing is something somewhat foreign to her. Oh, she understands it better than ye average nerd, mostly due to extended exposure to Rarity, a close friend of hers back home. Yet she still opts for the simple more often than not. Back home, that meant plain dresses and saddles; here, that means blue jeans that fit without being too snug or too loose, and tops that offered no flash. Lack of flash seems to be a staying point for Twilight. If she's noticed, it has more to do with her personality (or, you know, the brilliant purple hair) than because of the way she carries herself or styles her body.
Personality: Twilight is a nerd's nerd. She believes that everything can be solved by finding the right book and reading through it. That doesn't just apply to the normal things that could be easily solved by research. Twilight had researched how to run properly, how to have the best sleepover, and how to make waffles. Her idea of preparing for a camping trip is to research camping and possibly to read a few stories about people who went camping. There is nothing that she cannot or will not study for.
And she will study, for Twilight believes in throwing herself fully into everything she does. She believes firmly in doing the absolute best you can absolutely do. This means that she will frequently overlook people, not out of cruelty or callousness, but simply because she didn't stop to think about them. She's gotten somewhat better at this over time, but it's not something she's fully grasped as of yet. She's far too busy working herself into a fervor. Which, by the way, will mean working until she collapses. In fact, she will find a way to make it so that she moves beyond the point of collapse, working further and further and harder.
Still, Twilight tries to be friendly. She recently learned the "Magic of Friendship" and as such believes that she should at least be civil to everyone she meets. She still doesn't have the highest tolerance of silliness, and she definitely doesn't have a lot of what one would call "faith'. In Twilight's world, there is a reason behind everything, and you can get that reason with copious amounts of research (except for Pinkie Sense. Don't mention Pinkie Sense). Still, an extended amount of time dealing with Pinkie Pie has left Twilight with a high tolerance for such things, though she might not necessarily respect the idea, she's certain to respect the person behind it.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History:
Twilight remembers everything. Everything.
From a very young age, Twilight demonstrated a remarkable knack for magic and all things magical. Even before she got her cutie mark (the symbol upon a pony that signifies his/her special talent), she showed aptitude for magic and casting far beyond her age. Magical kindergarten proved to be something of a breeze for her, and she easily coasted. When the time came for her to finally prove herself during her magical school admissions, Twilight... well, actually, she choked at first and it took this giant rainbow thing to inspire her to unleash magic the likes Equestria had never seen. And it was this that caught the attention of the rule of the realm, the alicorn Princess Celestia, who took Twilight on as a personal apprentice.
For several years, nearly all of her life save for the first few and the latest few, Twilight studied diligently under her princess. She was determined to become the best student that someone could ever be, which meant putting aside such silly things as parties and friendships and the like. The only companion she had was Spike, the dragon she'd hatched at her magic audition, who served as her assistant and closest companion for years. Which suited Twilight just fine: why bother with anyone else?
Then there was this whole thing with a prophecy about an evil awakening in the moon. Twilight took the information to the Princess... and the princess responded by sending Twilight to Ponyville. There, Twilight met an eclectic group of fellow ponies, and together they formed an unbreakable bond, even finally unearthing the full potential of the Elements of Harmony (Twilight's element being magic, of course). Twilight, for her part, was quite content to live with her friends. Sure, they were required to head out for various duties from time to time, often in connection with a request from Princess Celestia, but overall, things went quite well. Twilight learned more about friendship every day, and she grew to care deeply for the ponies of Ponyville.
Then one day, Twilight received a book from the princess. it contained the various spells of Starscroll the Bearded, greatest unicorn that ever lived. Twilight had instructions to examine this finished spell in the back of the book, the only spell that Starscroll could not complete on his own. Just as she was about to do so, however, something... happened. Twilight still can't quite recall the exact details. she does know that she was holding the book at the time, and that Spike had just called out to her. The next thing she knew, however, she was sprawled in the grass of a lawn in a world that felt decidedly different from her own. Worse, Twilight couldn't feel her magic anymore, and things seemed to have... changed.
Key Moment: Twilight was taken right at the beginning of the last episode of Season 3 of the show. She has the book that Celestia gave her, but did not attempt to cast the spell, meaning her friends still have their original cutie marks, and Twilight is not, well, that's spoileriffic.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
Twilight tried to stand up, only to find that her butt seemed to want to go higher in the air than usual. This was, needless to say, rather unusual. Twilight attempted to correct by shifting, which essentially meant performing a motion that looked strangely akin to doing the worm upon the ground. She let out a sigh of frustration, blowing hair out of her eyes. When it fell back into her face, Twilight knew she would have to use her magic to get rid of it. She concentrated, focusing her thoughts and energies into her horn, performing the same magic that she always did. Yet...
nothing happened. Twilight's eyes snapped open and she again tried to scramble upright. She didn't care that she looked ridiculous: her tail end incredibly high in the air while her front seemed to be practically kissing dirt by comparison. She needed to get up, to move... to... to...
USE MAGIC.
"Where is my magic!" yelled Twilight. She focused again, pulling all the energies she knew lay within her. she should feel the charge. It should be coming from her horn. It should be centered right there, on her head. Twilight's brow even crinkled in frustration, determined to... wait. Twilight crinkled her brow. she worked her forehead. She squinted. She raised both brows. Her horn was... missing.
"Excuse me, miss?"
The voice came from off to the side, and Twilight shifted. She could tell she was in a backyard; that much was evident. It looked a little strange, to be sure. The fences were too high, for one thing. But there was a dog house and plenty of grass and several other things that looked... yard-y. What did not look yardy was the strange creature standing a short distance away. Wait, make that creatures. Because they were both there, standing on two legs and wearing what appeared to be suits of some kind. Twilight squinted at them, trying to recall if she'd ever read anything about them. She shifted her feet, and felt her front left "hoof" connect with something that felt decidedly familiar. when she looked down, Twilight first saw the book, which sent a wave of relief crashing down upon her. Almost immediately afterward, however, she saw the pale, fleshy hand, complete with five fingers.
And Twilight screamed, making everyone jump. The two suits bounded over the fence, entering the yard and approaching Twilight carefully. The girl kept screaming as they came near, and she raised her hand to them. "It's different!" she yelled, wiggling her fingers. "Oh, that is definitely not natural. That is most definitely... i must have changed! This must be a spell of some kind! Yes, that's it! I've--I've been transformed into... into," she looked at the creatures in suits, "whatever you are. Are you some species of troll? I don't recall reading about you in Magical Compendium of Magical Creatures or Dr. Doohooves' Guide to Animals, but you do..."
"Miss," said one of the suits, cutting Twilight off mid rant. The purple haired girl looked up at the suit, who at least sounded female. It continued: "I think we have a lot to explain to you..."
"Um, you wouldn't happen to have a pamphlet or something, maybe?" asked Twilight, giving each suit a hopeful smile.
