The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB: Travis Caldwell
Appearance:
At first glance, Robin isn't very impressive. He's short for his age and seems slender under his clothes, so he doesn't look like he'd be very strong or athletic, and he's used to carrying himself in a relaxed, unassuming sort of way. He's not entirely unnoticeable, with a classically handsome face that's usually wearing his heart on his sleeve - or at least, it seems to be, he's very expressive and open, with guileless big blue eyes and a cheeky smile underneath artfully messy hair.
It's not... quite all an act, especially since he came to Tenebrae, he is as friendly and cheerful as he first appears, but a great deal of his appearance is deliberately crafted - almost on instinct now as he still continues with the charade even though he isn't quite aware why he does it.
When he's not projecting a non-threatening air, he holds himself much more upright and confident and it becomes more obvious that his slender physique is actually incredibly well-muscled (his height and musculature both a result of a lifetime of acrobatics).
Personality: Robin is a hero, even if he doesn't quite remember that at the moment, he's still as self-sacrificing as he always has been. He always puts his friends first, and even complete strangers as well when it comes to facing danger, he's always going to be putting himself in the firing line.
In more everyday situation, he's friendly, charming and personable. It's hard to dislike him, he's always ready with a kind word or a joke (although his sense of humour can be a little quirky) and he's a generous and caring friend. If you need somebody to talk to, he's there to listen, he wants to help people and that includes emotionally, he's ready to offer anything his friends might need.
He's a natural leader, charmismatic and competent, he's quietly confident about his own abilities and not afraid to take charge, though he also has the ability to follow somebody else's orders when the situation requires it, he knows when it's appropriate to go against what he's been told and when it's important to stick to orders. He isn't the type to make a powerplay if somebody else is established as in charge, but he's always ready to step in if he's needed.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Richard Grayson was born to incredibly doting parents John and Mary Grayson, acrobats and aerialists in Haly's Circus. His childhood was charmed and happy, though they moved around a lot Dick wasn't lacking for friends, and he was more than happy to follow in his parents footsteps, he practically learnt to walk on a high wire.
He joined the act himself, the trio becoming one of Haly's star attractions, and for a few years nothing could go wrong. Tragedy struck when Dick was just nine years old. The circus was visiting Gotham City, a place particularly rife with corruption, when mob boss Tony Zucco asked for protection money, the circus refused. In retaliation, Zucco tampered with the trapeze - causing Dick's parents to fall to their death.
Luckily for the young orphan, the audience contained none other than Bruce Wayne, playb billionaire and, apparently, philanthropist. For reasons unknown (but massively speculated upon), Bruce took in the young boy as his ward.
Dick knew, however, as he'd seen the mobsters attempting to extort Mr. Haly and was intending on going to the police, until Batman had informed him just how little that would achieve.
When Batman told Dick about the loss of his own parents, the young boy begged Bruce to let him become his partner, to see justice done and Zucco punished for his crimes.
Bruce put him through a rigorous training process until finally he deemed Dick was ready, and Robin made his first flight by Batman's side.
They successfully brought Zucco to justice together, and it was the start of them becoming the perfect team. Wherever Batman went, Robin wasn't far behind, providing a light-hearted counterpart to Batman's gruff darkness, and plenty of distraction for the villains they encountered.
When Dick was 13, he and some of the other young heroes are taken to the Hall of Justice for the first time - only to discover that their 'first step' towards becoming fully fledged members of the justice league was nowhere near what they had hoped for.
Left to their own devices with an unsolved mystery on their hands, Robin, Kid Flash and Aqualad decide to go and investigate on their own. During the incident at Cadmus Labs, they discover and rescue a young clone of Superman, and the four decide to start a team of their own, for the next generation of heroes.
As they proved themselves more and more often, other young heroes joined the team, forging out paths for themselves as a group, out of the shadows of their assorted mentors. At first, Robin was just a team member, though it was always with the intention of taking on the mantle of leader when he was ready. This happened when he turned sixteen, Aqualad 'defected' (in reality he left to infiltrate his father's organisation) and Robin became the new leader of the team.
With his new position of responsibility and with Jason Todd already being trained to follow in his footsteps as a second Robin, it was time for Dick to take on a new identity, a hero in his own right - Nightwing.
The team now consisted of enough heroes to form multiple sub-teams for missions, with almost every young hero joining at least some of the time - including Dick's 'replacement'. All was going well until Jason Todd's death at the hands of the Joker, causing both Dick and Bruce to become distant and withdrawn. He became increasingly reckless, putting himself in the line of fire repeatedly, determined not to lose another teammate - another family member.
Enter Tim Drake, an intelligent young man who worked out Nightwing's identity (and, by extension, Batman's) and approached them, determined that Batman needed a Robin. At first, both Dick and Bruce resisted the idea, but eventually Tim's determination wore them down and they agreed.
Now, a year later, Dick was starting to recover from Jason's death and finally get back to his old self, until...
Key Moment: Dick was on an undercover surveillance mission when his tracker suddenly stopped registering him, and he could no longer be reached through any comms. He was gone.
Dick is taken from during the timeskip, a few months before the start of season 2.
The fun part? See that beautiful wall of text up there? Dick doesn't remember any of it, the only thing he remembers is arriving in our world, with nothing but vague hints and emotions to suggest his time before.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
He was in an alleyway, that much he knew. He couldn't see very well but he quickly realised that was because of the dark glasses over his eyes. He pushed them up onto his head, moving towards the alley entrance slowly, finding his moves to be automatically stealthy. He peered round the corner but couldn't see anything untoward, it seemed to be just a normal shopping street, people going about their everyday lives oblivious to the seventeen year old kid hanging out in an alleyway with no idea how he got there.
He became aware of a buzzing noise in his ear and reached up to investigate, finding what seemed like a bluetooth earpiece, but some investigation revealed that he couldn't find any way to contact anybody on it, even though he seemed to automatically know how to use it (he didn't understand how, or who he would be trying to contact, but the technology just made sense to him). He rifled through his pockets to find any sort of hint as to who he was or what was going on, but while he found several other pieces of impressive technology tucked away in various hidden pockets, he didn't seem to be carrying any sort of identification.
As he was searching for something familiar, anything that might trigger the tiniest hint of recognition, a woman in a suit approached him with a polite smile.
"Excuse me? Sir?"
He looked up, startled, glancing around to see if she was really speaking to him.
"I'm here to help you, I'm from a place called Tenebrae Estates. Could you tell me your name?"
He opened his mouth to respond, but suddenly realised that the information that should be on the tip of his tongue was nowhere to be found. Giving her a distressed look, he reached desperately for the knowledge.
"Don't worry if you've forgotten, the Shift can do that to some people. We can give you a new name if you can't remember. Tenebrae are here to help people like yourself."
He wasn't sure if he should trust this woman, but he had no other option, he didn't find any money in his pockets either, and he wasn't sure it was a good idea to give away any of that concealed technology. Perhaps she was genuinely there to help him, and if she wasn't... well, even though he didn't know why he had all that equipment or where he'd got it from, he knew how to use it, and he was pretty sure at least some of it could get him out of a tight spot.
"...alright, I'll come with you." he nodded eventually.
"Would you like us to assign you a new name, or have you remembered anything? Sometimes memory begins to return."
"...I think... I think it might be Robin?" The word felt right in his mouth, like it made sense to him.
"And a last name?"
He searched his mind for a word that gave him that same feeling of familiarity, of rightness. Then he found it, a word that seemed to work, that made him think of family.
"Wayne."
