The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB [insert URL of Smallish image here. Aim for no
larger than 300 x 500]
Appearance:
According to the suits who took her measurements upon arrival at Tenebrae Estates, Applejack in her shifted form stands at 5’7” tall and weighs a healthy 130 pounds. She has a small frame that is very fit and well-toned, like a runner or gymnast. She has pretty tanned skin from being outside so much. She also has large, green eyes, long, thick, blonde hair, and a spatter of freckles on her cheeks. Her face is round and friendly. Her torso seems to be shorter than her legs, which seem to take up most of her height. However, despite this, her shifted form is rather curvy, much more so than you might expect it to be. She also actually still has her cutie mark, though she doesn’t know it. The three apples can be seen in the center of her lower back, almost like a tattoo.
When Applejack arrived at Tenebrae Estates, she was wearing her cowgirl hat and boots fromm Ponyville. She is rarely seen without them on, even here at Tenebrae. She was also wearing a loose. Red t-shirt and cut-off jean shorts. While the outfit was fine for the first few days, she thinks the seasons will change soon and become much cooler. When that happens, she’ll probably start wearing loose, blue jeans and flannel shirts with her boots and hat. She still prefers to wear her hair in a long, loose braid.
Personality:
Applejack’s personality is pretty simple and down to earth. That’s because she’s a simple, down to earth girl. She doesn’t feel the need for frills and fluffs. Also, as the element of honesty, she likes things to be laid flat out. There’s no need to hide anything, so why try to confuse people with fancy, big words? That is not to say she’s dumb. Sure, she might not like to study as much as her friend, Twilight, does, but she has a good lot of common sense. She can also tell when a pony knows something or when they’re lying, but maybe that has more to do with the element of honesty.
She’s reliable and dependable. All you need to do is ask her and she’ll be there. She likes to help people and will try to do so at any cost to herself. She’s responsible too. On rare occasions where she feels she’s slacked off in her responsibilities, she’ll try to make it up in any way she can.
Everypony has flaws, and Applejack is no different. She is extremely stubborn. Sometimes, she can even put herself or others in danger because she refuses help. She can be a bit messy and rude, which can get on someponies’ nerves. She doesn’t really mean to be. It’s just that she usually doesn’t even think of such things. She does have manners, just not the snotty kind.
Overall, Applejack is a friendly, hardworking, honest women who can be a bit stubborn and insensitive.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History:
Applejack was born in the middle of apple-bucking season. She had an older brother, Big Macintosh, and a grandmother, Granny Smith, living with her as well. The whole family lived and worked on an apple orchard, Sweet Apple Acres, where they cultivated apples and made tasty treats using the apples. Apples were the Applefamily’s whole life, so it came as no surprise that Applejjack could peel and core apples before she could even talk.
The first few years of Applejack’s life were happy ones. She tended to the apples and went to school and did most things other little fillies did, like jump rope and braid her hair. She wasn’t really in a popular crowd, but she had friends she could trust and depend on, and that’s what mattered to her. Also around this happy time, the Apple family welcomed a new member, a little sister named Apple Bloom. Life was good, and there were plenty of apples to go around. What more could a little filly ask for?
Then, an unfortunate tragedy struck in the Apple family. Applejack’s momma and daddy had gone on a trip for a week. The parents had left their children in the care of Granny Smith. Sure, she was getting older, but the four of them could manage for a week. Unfortunately, Applejack's momma and daddy never made it back to Sweet Apple Acres. No one knows what happened to them. There wasn’t a train crash or anything. After that, no one saw them again. It was like they just vanished.
Regardless of what had happened to them, Applejack now had a lot of responsibility. Even though she was still a young filly without her cutie mark, she now had to help Granny Smith take care of little Apple Bloom and the house as well as helping Big Macintosh with the apple bucking. Because she and her brother were still pretty young, they weren’t able to do as a good a job as their parents had done. Sweet Apple Acres started to fall into a state of disrepair and neglect, though the siblings tried their hardest to keep it running.
Eventually, things became better as Big Macintosh and Apple Bloom got bigger and stronger. No longer did Applejack feel the pressures of responsibility, and she was able to focus on herself a bit more and the fact that she still didn’t have her cutie mark. For some reason, she thought she would find her talent in Canterlot, so she left to go visit Aunt and Uncle Orange. Of course, her family was worried about her, considering her parents had vanished doing the same thing, but they understood it was something she just had to do.
It was probably the worst time she’d ever had in her whole life. At first, it was kinda fun getting her hair done and talking fancy. It was like she was playing pretend. Soon though, she started to miss her home. One day, she was looking out her window when she saw a rainbow pointing straight back home. It was then that she knew just where she belonged and rushed back home to Sweet Apple Acres. She got her cutie mark as soon as she was back, and has never felt the need to leave since.
For several years, the Apple siblings continued to grow until they could support themselves, their farm, and their grandmother. Applejack was busy most of the time working on the farm and baking things, not to mention she was pretty much the sole caretaker of young Apple Bloom for a while. However, she still made time to be with her friends, so when Pinkie Pie invited her to a Welcome to Ponyville/Sunrise Celebration party for Twilight Sparkle, of course she went. Applejack had met Twilight Sparkle the day before when the purple pony had come to Sweet Apple Acres to see about the food the Apple family was providing for the party. The pony had seemed nice, if a bit stiff. Still when things went wrong at the party, Applejack knew that Twilight Sparkle would know how to set things right. From there Applejack and her friends were quickly included in Twilight Sparkle’s attempt to save Princess Celestia. At the end of a long list of trials, they discovered that they each possessed traits of the Elements of Harmony, making them personifications of the elements themselves. Applejack was the Element of Honesty. It didn’t really matter to her though that she became an element. What mattered was that they succeeded in saving Princess Celestia and reuniting the princess with her younger sister, Princess Luna.
From that time on, Twilight Sparkle became one of Applejack’s best friends. Together, they with Applejack’s other friends had gone on many more adventures. Sometimes, they needed to use the Elements of Harmony, like when they fought Discord, but most of the time, they just hung out and learned how to be better friends.
In more recent times, Applejack had noticed something strange going on. Her friends were vanishing. It started with Twilight Sparkle. Applejack didn’t see the purple pony for a few days. This wasn’t so odd. Twilight usually went on study binges where she didn’t leave the library for several days in a row. Applejack started to get worried when Rainbow Dash didn’t show up to show off a new trick she’d wanted Applejack to see. Ah well, maybe the trick wasn’t quite perfect yet or maybe the cyan pony had heard that the Wonderbolts were around. Then Applejack didn’t see Pinkie Pie for three whole days, and this really worried her because she usually saw Pinkie bouncing around everyday multiple times a day. She went to see Fluttershy, but all she saw was an upset bunny and several other critters. What was going on now?
Key Moment: Applejack was rushing over to Rarity’s to see if she’d seen any of their friends lately and maybe to form a search party to help look for them. The boutique was in sight, and suddenly it wasn’t. All of a sudden, Applejack was running through a forest.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
Applejack was running faster than she ever had in her life. Her friends were in trouble; she just knew it. Before she could help them though, she had to protect the friends she had left. This meant bringing them together, so they would all be safe. She was going to gather Fluttershy now. In fact, she could already see the yellow pegusasus’ little cottage. All seemed normal there, which relieved her.
Applejack raced up to the door and knocked loudly. “Fluttershy!” She shouted through the closed door. “I need to talk to you! Somethin’ bad has happened to Twilight and Rainbow and Pinkie! You gotta help me find ‘em!” All of her shouting did not result in the door being opened, so she knocked again, harder and louder, startling a few birdies in a nearby tree. Fluttershy wouldn’t be happy about that, but this was mighty important. “Fluttershy! Are you in there? It’s me! Applejack!” She turned slowly around, looking around the cottage in case her friend was actually out helping the little critters and not inside. “Come on, Fluttershy,” she mumbled under her breath. “Please be here.”
The door creaked open. “Oh thank heavens! Fluttershy, I was—“ Applejack stopped midsentence. As soon as she turned around, she knew something was wrong. Fluttershy was not the one who had opened the door, but her pet bunny, Angel, had. Angel was now frantically hopping about and looking downright afraid. “Calm down, Angel.” Applejack said in a sooting voice. “I’m just here to see Fluttershy. Is she here?” The bunny hopped about some more and shook his little head so hard Applejack thought he might hurt himself. “All right, all right. She’s not here. I getcha. There’s no reason to have a fit now.” She tried to speak calmly, even though her knot of worry was growing bigger. “How long has she been gone?” Angel held up two claws. “What? She has not been gone two days. I just saw her yesterday.” The bunny quickly hopped up to a clock on the mantel and moved the hour hand back two hours. Applejack felt relief wash over her, and she almost laughed. “Two hours ain’t that long. I’m sure she’s just out helping critters, like she likes to do.” Angel started hopping about again and patting his chest. “Aw come on now. She doesn’t take you everywhere with her, does she?” Angel just stared at her. “All right…. So you think somethin’ has has happened to her?” Angel hopped about and nodded his head. “All right, calm down. Everythin’s gonna be just fine. I’m gonna find her. You and all the other critters go on over to Sweet Apple Acres. You’ll be fine there until she gets back.” Applejack turned to leave, but a flutter of wings caught her eye. She turned to se Twilight’s owl, Rainbow’s tortoise, and Pinkie’s lizard sitting there. “You too,” she said to the three, swallowing the lump in her throat. “Don’t worry. I’m going to find them. I promise.”
Applejack was off, running again. She was going to Rarity’s now. Running through the town…She could see the boutique…running through a dense forest. She stopped so suddenly that she stumbled forward several feet before eventually losing her balance and falling. “What in tarnation!” She shouted as she sat up. “Where am I? And what are these things?” The question was aimed at her new appendages at the end of her legs. She could open and close them easily and pick up stuff as she experimented with a rock. “So they’re hooves…only more pointy. All right, I can handle that.” She was still wearing her boots, so she figured she was only supposed to stand on her back legs now. She did try standing up on all four legs, but it felt awkward. Once she was standing, she patted herself down, taking note of the new shape her body was in. “Well, at least everythin’ is workin’ all right.” She turned slowly and saw her cowgirl hat on the ground not too far away from her. She quickly snatched it up and put it back on her head. “And I’ve still got my hat. Not too bad for a sudden world change. I don’t know how good these legs will be for applebuckin’, but maybe I can use these pointy hooves instead. I’ll figure that out later. Right now, I still don’t know where I am.”
Applejack started slowly walking through the forest. About ten minutes later, she came to a black road where she saw a strange creature standing. The creature waved at her with a pointy hoof and motioned for her to come closer. Not having any reason to be afraid of the creature, she waved back and approached. “Why, howdy do! I’m Applejack!” She grabbed the creature’s ponty hoof and shook it, much like she would shake hooves with other ponies back in Ponyville.
“Uh, pleased to meet you, Applejack,” the creature said in a deep voice. The voice made her think this a male creature, which would make her a female creature. “I have some questions for you, so if you could just answer them to the best of your ability, that would be splendid.”
“Well, all right, I guess I can do that for you,” Applejack said slowly, “but I have some questions too, and if you could answer ‘em, that’d be just dandy.”
The man’s lips quirked into a smile. “What sort of questions do you have?”
“Well, for starters, what am I? I used to be a pony, and I’ve never seen anything like you or me before.”
“You’re a human being,” the man said. “I’m a man, and you’re a woman.”
“Well, I could tell you were a man by your deep voice, and I’ve been a woman for several years now, so no surprises there.” Applejack raised her pointy hooves and opened and closed them. “What are these?”
“Hands,” the man said simply. He showed her his own hands. “These are called fingers and thumbs and palms. All together they make a hand, which is used to manipulate objects. I’d imagine they’d be a lot easier to use than hooves once you got used to them.” He bent down and took off his shoe and sock. “This is a foot. Toes and sole and heel make up the foot, which is used to balance the body to enable you to stand, walk, and run.” He put his shoe and sock back on. “You should know your other parts, but they might be in different places.”
Applejack had listened to the man carefully. Okay, so she was a human now with hands and foots. It could always be worse, though she thought it might take her a while to get used to. “Just one more question: where am I?”
“Oh, that’s not important,” the man said with a dismissive wave. “We won’t be here for long.”
“Why?” Applejack said curiously. “Where are we going?”
“To Tenebrae Estates,” the man said, smiling brightly. “It’s where we take people in your situation. You might even find some friends there. I believe we have some people who used to be ponies staying there.”
“Twilight? Rainbow? Pinkie? Fluttershy?” Applejack asked earnestly. “Is this where they all got to? Well, what are we waitin’ for? Let’s get a move on!”
The man chuckled lightly. “Now just hold on. I still have to ask my questions. First, what’s your first and last name?”
“Applejack Smith,” she answered automatically. It was true, though she rarely used the Smith part.
“And where are you from?”
“Ponyville, Equestria.” It was another automatic answer.
“Very good,” the man said, smiling. “That was all I needed to know. Now if you’ll stand right there, I’ll call our ride, and then we can go.” He turned away from her and pulled out his phone. A few minutes later a long black limo pulled up to the side of the road. He opened the door and motioned for the young woman to get inside. When she hesitated, he smiled brightly. “It’s a car, a form of transportation, and in this case, the only way to get to where your friends are.”
Applejack took a deep breath before she stepped into the car and sat down. The man got in after her and sat down before reaching over and closing the door. Then, they were off, heading to Tenebrae Estates.
