Appearance: James is physically quite slender, unlike he was in canon form, with a broad chest, but thin arms, and quite a deep, monotone, very boring voice. There isn't much meat on him, but what is there, is extremely well toned muscle. This makes him quite deceiving physically, and he therefore becomes quite a force to be reckoned with, as he has a fair amount of strength. He's not amazingly skinny, but enough that he would look deceiving.
The odd thing about him, is that Laserbeak, Ratbat, and Ravage were transported with him. Rumble and Frenzy were not, but the three others did. Laserbeak is a black eagle, with blood red feathers, and a rather creepy demeanour, looking strange compared to other birds. Ratbat is not a fusion of a rat and bat, but is simply a bat, whose fur seems to shine purple, making him look exceptionally strange, but the fact he is a bat makes him odd anyways. Ravage is as normal as a black panther can get. The only odd thing is the flesh in his mouth being coloured purple.
James usually wears a blue jacket, which he's had printed with his chest from his canon universe, and always wears it with the blue fabric hood up, wireless headphones over it, and has a grey bandana over his mouth. This is accompanied by blood red sunglasses, which are one way mirrors, rendering his eyes unobservable. This is accompanied by white jeans, with blue, knee high combat boots, and blue gloves.
Personality: It is an all round fact, that no matter who he is around, James is cold. The only thing he caters to are his pets, Laserbeak, Ratbat and Ravage. He is wholely disinterested in human affairs, and the drama or affairs around him. This would not change, even if Megatron were to be Shifted. This cold disinterest is very obvious through his monotone voice, which, despite a lack of actual effects on it, sounds robotic and mechanised.
He has some fighting spirit, but this is borne of his other personality trait. His intense loyalty to those in power making him a very useful ally, as he has a vast wealth of knowledge and hacking ability. Some of the staff suspect he could hack into the Tenebrae project network, and sabotage it if he so desired, and rumour has spread quickly that he does know why they are being kept in Tenebrae. This is actually false, although he does have the plans to.
He is exceptionally patient, and will literally wait for weeks to see a particular person, simply inhabiting a spot where he has been told to be for people. He will not accept anyone to have power over him except Megatron, and refuses to accept any other authority in the world, be it this world, or his universe, he will wait for Megatron.
He converses with people because it passes time, and is easily distracted, tending to drift in conversation. His lack of emotion makes him difficult to be a friend to anyone. Loving is just something he will not do, as he is more interested in serving those who he believes have earned command. He also refuses to let go of his universe, constantly searching for ways to go back to Megatron and Cybertron.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Soundwave served as intelligence officer during the war on Cybertron. He had the questionably useful altmode of a space-age lamppost, which allowed him to get as close to Autobot headquarters as the street leading into Iacon. There, he deployed his chest-dwelling minion Laserbeak who could snoop even closer. Laserbeak overheard talk of the Autobot mission to seek new energy sources off Cybertron, which prompted the Decepticons to intercept and board the Ark. During the fight aboard the Ark Soundwave easily fought off Jazz, Prowl and Sideswipe only to be kicked in the back by Ironhide. He then somehow got up again to be punched in the chest by Ratchet, whom he threw against a console. However, this battle was cut short when the gravity of a primitive planet forced both ships to crash land. Four million years later in the Earth year of 1984, the Transformers awakened and Soundwave was reformatted into a portable cassette player. He played an essential role in the generation of energon cubes and the formation of plans for a new space cruiser to return the Decepticons to Cybertron.
Soundwave's cassette player mode allowed him to dupe a grabby and none-too-questioning Spike Witwicky into carrying his shrunken form into Autobot headquarters, where he was able to deploy Ravage and record information on Earth's most plentiful resources. Though Ravage was captured, Soundwave escaped to report to Megatron. After Ravage returned after being allowed to escape, Soundwave proved his loyalty to Megatron by warning his leader of Starscream's foolish attempt to take his life. During the subsequent battle at the launch site of the space cruiser, Sound deployed several tapes in Operation: Warfare. Soundwave served as helmsman for the space cruiser on its remarkably short flight from Earth, and alerted the others to Mirage's intrusion. Implacable in the face of destruction, Soundwave monotonally reported his failure to halt their descent while the rest of the Decepticons panicked.
He was instrumental in many parts of the Decepticon plans from here on out, constantly providing science, technology and energon cube production for the Decepticons
Key Moment: After Megatron suffered damage in a fight against the autobots, and Starscream threw his body out of the spaceship, Soundwave fought the other decepticons for control, succeeding by definition, although he suffered some damage, before Starscream returned from hiding and took control.
When Galvatron, a reinvented Megatron killed Starscream, Soundwave served faithfully, before a fight with autobots left him damaged, and he went into a standby type mode to repair.
When he awoke, the Shift had occurred.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample: Soundwave awoke to the sounds of birds. But he had been in the decepticon base. Why was he here? This was the human world. The world of those fleshling people. Why was he here again? He was supposed to be aboard the decepticon base repairing!
He stood up, seeing human animals around him.
"Laserbeak, deploy..." His monotone voice was instantly recognisable. But Laserbeak didn't deploy from his chest. He looked down to see he was a fleshlng. Was this one of Galvatron's plans? Disguise all decepticons as humans, to confuse and destroy the autobots? He would have to play along with the humans to accomplish that. He would wait to hear from his superiors.
"Laserbeak. Return to me." He spoke the words and waited. Then some fleshling bird landed on his shoulder, and he was about to hit it when a bat landed on his other shoulder.
The the huge black panther walked up to him. He was flesh now, he would be easier to damage.
"Mr. Baroque?" The man was tall, with black sunglasses and a suit. Another fleshling.
"Yes. That's me. Please dispose of these animals appropriately." He had to play along, as much as the fleshy things disgusted him, he had to pretend to be one of them. Just for now.
"How do you feel? What do you remember?" The black suited man was followed by several women. This was a nature Soundwave had observed in humans before. This man had what was known as a harot. These were harlots, and he was their ruler.
"You are the ruler of this harot?" He stood up, going for the polite human act. As he went to shake hands with the man, the black panther growled, the monotone growl familiar.
"Ravage? Stand down. The humans must not be harmed. Obey me, Soundwave." He thought he was being telepathic, but apparently not.
"You aren't Soundwave anymore. You are James Baroque, yes?" The man had a few women contain the three animals, who got defensive, and instinctively, Soundwave shouted at them.
"DO NOT TOUCH THEM, FLESHLING." Laserbeak freed himself, as did Ravage and Ratbat, and they perched on Soundwave's shoulder, while Ravage sat by his feet.
"They are mine. Back off." Ravage was snarling, and Soundwave was prepared to reveal his robot form. One of the humans pulled out a device that he recognised as a taser. Not believing it could damage him, he simply laughed.
Then it was fired at him.
