Tink sat on a bench in the middle of a section of the garden dedicated to roses. She was alone for now, and she really didn’t want any company either. She had just fought off an invisibility beam a few hours ago. That had been exciting, but something bad had happened during the event: she’d dropped her talking device. If you didn’t already know this about fairis, you would know it soon. Fairies can’t talk like humans do, at least not Tink’s type of fairy. They jingle and tinkle instead when a human hears them. When Tink had Shifted, she’d been unable to talk at all. The doctors had said the Shift had stressed her and that maybe she’d talk again. In the meantime, they’d given her a device to communicate with, and now she’d broken it. Oh, it could be fixed. She’d taken it to the suits, and they’d said it’d be fixed in a few days. It was those few days she was worried about. She’d gotten used to having the device with her, and now she had nothing, nothing but paper and pen.
The young blonde woman sighed and looked around her. It was a beautiful day. The sky was a pale blue, the sun was bright, little white clouds floated here and there, and the roses were beautiful. They came in all sorts of colors, including Rosetta red. Rosetta… Thinking of her fairy friend made her think of all of her other friends. None of them had popped up yet, and she wasn’t sure to be happy or sad about that. On the one hand, she did not wish the experience of Shifting on anyone; on the other, she wished she had someone there to relate to. Even if her friends Shifted being able to talk, they would still know how it felt to not be able to fly anymore.
Flying… Tink missed flying more than she missed talking. Flying was freedom. If she could fly, there was no way she’d still be here. She looked down at the pad of paper on her lap. She’d been doodling flying machines again. The page was full of everything from butterfly wing contraptions to something more like a fighter jet. The problem was she didn’t have any pixie dust, and that’s what made things fly. How else could a heavy metal object ever get off the ground? Of course, it wasn’t really pixie dust. Humans couldn’t get pixie dust, not from Pixie Hollow anyways. They had their own dust, but maybe she could get some of it? Maybe it would work now that she was human? She sighed again, and after quickly looking around, started doodling again.
