Flickering lights, ear-piercing screams, and a close-up of the decaying face of a rising zombie flashed across a screen. Shock sat cross-legged on the floor of her dorm, he face so close to the TV that she could have practically been pressing her masked face up against it. She was so mesmerized by the flashing images, but more so of this channel, which seemed to be playing horror movie after horror movie in honor of the fall season. It would more than likely not stop until the holiday was well over, but Shock was perfectly content sitting here all day if she could, if only to see the frightening monsters that so successfully seemed to be terrifying and tricking the people. Some she had even begun to idolize.
“Yes! They are very scared now, now you can trap them in the hallway! That will catch them off guard!” Shock was speaking loudly to the TV, and yes… to the zombie instead of the humans. She was most certainly going to cheer on the zombie in this situation.
Her eyes widened however, as the frame flashed to the man, who picked up an axe and readied himself near the doorway. “NO! DON’T GO IN THERE, ZOMBIE! THAT MAN IS GOING TO RUIN YOUR TRICK! HE IS GOING TO CUT YOU TO PIECES!” She had stood up and was yelling now, biting her lip as the zombie has begun to rip his way through the door and the man pulled the axe back. She didn’t get to see the rest, however, as the screen had suddenly clicked and gone dark.
“AHHH NOO! WHAT HAPPENED? WHAT HAPPENED TO THE MONSTER?!” Shock was scrambling around the box, which she had named the ‘cursed box’. Well, it certainly seemed cursed, the way you could see scenes and people inside of it. She had only thought that crystal balls could do that, the kind that witches and evil gypsies might use.
She didn’t know what was wrong. The box still seemed unbroken and square. She saw some buttons and started mashing them anxiously, but they did nothing. So much for problem solving. She tried to shake it a little and tap it, but that did nothing as well.
“ACK! SOMEONE BROKE THE CURSE! WHY WOULD THEY DO SUCH A THING?” She was scrambling around her room now, wondering how on earth she was going to see the monsters now, when she suddenly noticed a number and instructions written on a note by the TV; A repair number. She picked up the phone. She knew you were supposed to speak in it to people, because she had seen the suits doing that. She guessed that since the note said to copy the number into the phone, she should start pressing the buttons? Still, it took a few tries for her to figure out what she was doing, before she could get the full number in correctly.
A voice started speaking something about leaving a message and beeping, to this the girl only replied in a shout, “THE CURSED BOX IS BROKEN, I NEED IT TO BE FIXED RIGHT NOW! BRING IN YOUR BEST WITCHES AND DARK WIZARDS TO MY ROOM, DORM 6!” Then she slammed the phone unnecessarily back onto the desk. Now, all she had to do was wait, but boy- what was she going to do without her new-found addiction? By now, had the zombie been tricked by the people, or was he clever enough to outsmart them and trick them instead?
