The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB
Elle Fanning
Appearance: A delicate, pretty young thing, Tara has fair skin and light blonde hair that reaches just past her shoulders, typically parted in the middle. Much like her former self, she has big blue eyes, and a small nose. Her jawline is very rounded, again, much like her former self. Her eyebrows are dark, contrasting with her fair hair. At times, her hair falls into her face, much to her annoyance. She sometimes remedies this with a clip in her hair.
Her attire consists of rather plain, somewhat formal clothing. Not willing to be too expressive anymore, Tara tends to pick clothing that's not very revealing. Often, she's wearing polo shirts and skirts with the occasional tie, as well as black flat shoes. She rarely wears accessories such as necklaces, bracelets, or the like. She wears very thin layers of makeup, typically consisting of eyeliner and mascara. She flip-flops between being expressive with her body language and being conservative, depending on who she's around.
If she's uncomfortable with those around her or she doesn't know them well, she tends to cross her arms or keep her arms at her side. On the other hand, if she trusts you at least a little, she'll start using hand gestures and becoming a bit more expressive in her movement.
Personality: Tara first comes across as a confident young girl. She's all smiles and charm, albeit she can come off as a bit strange. She's full of energy at first, as well as very lighthearted in conversation. Your typical, cool girl is what she could be described as. Usually, this is just an act to get you to think there isn't a thing wrong with her when in reality, she hates herself and has insecurity problems.
Tara typically tries to keep her distance from others. She has a deep fear of betraying someone she cares about, as she's done it before. She's conflicted with herself at most times. She wants friends, to feel accepted and trusted, but at the same time, she doesn't want to be betrayed or become a traitor herself. This leads to her having a few amount of friends, despite seeming upbeat and spunky.
Tara has trust issues. If she feels as though she's going to get hurt, she can become unfriendly and aloof. She also tends to lie about herself, not to mention become rather irritable when questioned about her past or who she is. The things she's done are a touchy subject with Tara, and if someone decides to ask her about it, she may unintentionally lash out at them. She's also extremely wary of who she trusts, as she's worried about being tossed to the side at any given moment. If she truly believes you're her friend, though, she'll do her best to stick by your side, even if you frustrate her at times.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Born princess of a land known as Markovia, Tara was the younger sister of Brion Markov. Her early years in life were difficult. She had no sense of who she was, who she was meant to be. All she wanted to do was figure out who she was, not be told what to do, how to act, or who she was supposed to be. Being royalty, that was all she ever heard. That was only worsened when she and her brother were part of an experiment that granted them their terrakinetic abilities.
The group of scientists working on them were looking to exploit them. Luckily, Brion stepped up and prevented that from occurring by fighting back. Terra, on the other hand, wasn't capable of controlling her powers. Being the younger and more impressionable of the two, she was terrified of herself, not to mention horrified by the thought of hurting the people she was closest to. Because of this, she ran away. Far, far away, without any place to call home. Her life went from riches to rags in a snap.
Now leading a nomadic lifestyle, she went from place to place without really finding a place to call home. The Earth was her home. At least, that's the motto she went by. No matter where she went, something would go horribly wrong just when everything was going right. Her earth-based powers would cause severe natural disasters, prompting her to leave wherever she was and move on to the next place. Never could she feel too attached to someone for this reason. This went on for quite some time until she stumbled upon the Teen Titans.
After demonstrating her powers, the five teenagers thought that she would be a great person to hang out with. They invited her to stick around for a while, and Terra decided it couldn't hurt to try being around them. She developed a friendship with Beast Boy. By pure accident, she revealed that she wasn't in control of her powers. Frantic and not wanting to be kicked out so soon, she begged the green skinned boy to keep her lack of control a secret. The other Titans figured out that she wasn't in control and offered her training. Terra was quick to believe Beast Boy betrayed her and ran away, determined to find out how to keep control.
Later, she returned to the teens, now capable of keeping a handle on her powers. She was welcomed once more, and began to form a relationship with Beast Boy. Then her true motives were exposed. Tara was a traitor who sided with Slade. No longer a friend to the Titans, Tara and Slade fought against the Titans. Their first fight, she came out of it victorious, though she felt empty and alone afterwards. Their next fight, she wasn't so lucky. She was beaten by the Titans, and later, beaten by Slade for failing him. With help from Beast Boy, she realized the error of her ways, but it was too late.
An erupting volcano threatened the city. The only way to stop it required sacrificing her life for many. With a tearful goodbye, she stopped the volcano, but became a statue of stone in the process. In a strange turn of events, however, Tara was able to be freed from her stony prison. She changed her life from then on. No longer was she going to be a Titan, no longer was she going to be a villain. From then on, she was determined to be normal.
Key Moment: Just after enrolling into high school, Tara was Shifted. Beast Boy didn't find her, and her memory has been partially damaged. She doesn't remember much of her early life, but she does recall everything that happened dealing with the Titans. She just chooses to act as though she doesn't remember.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample: There were flashing colors. Bright, flashing colors. Tara recalled heading to bed, only to end up in the middle of a field, lying on the hard, earthy ground with her final memories being that of strange colors leaking into her eyes. The blonde grunted as she shifted about on the ground, her blue orbs covered by fair eyelids. She paused for a brief moment, only for her blue eyes to flash wide open. She sat up in an instant, heart racing and hair falling out of place. Tara's lips parted, her mouth agape as she attempted to find out what was going on. Wide blue eyes gazed this way and that.
The sky was a brilliant hue of azure, a songbird chirped in the distance. The golden sun blazed down upon the meadow. A flummoxed Tara wasn't entirely sure how to fit the pieces together. There wasn't a single person around, as far as the blonde could tell. Her eyes fell down to look upon the grass below her, hands running through the emerald blades curiously. Her head shook in disbelief. She was going crazy!
"Come on, Terra, you probably just passed out here, and you don't remember it," she whispered to herself in an attempt to reassure herself. Her dark brows began to knit together, the corner of her lips tugging downwards in a frown. It didn't make sense. She didn't have a single clue as to where she was, not to mention she was there by herself too. Besides, how could you even begin to explain the strange colors she could swear she saw? Thoughts ran through her head as fast as her speeding heart was pumping. She lifted herself upwards, arms shaky as she did so. Tara stood up, staring directly ahead of her in silence. How could she make sense of this?
"Excuse me, miss?"
A voice called out behind her. Her head swiveled around to view a man in a suit, eyes covered by sunglasses. Not being able to make eye contact with the stranger forced Tara to feel unsettled. She gripped her left wrist with her right, keeping her arms down in front of her. Her head was tilted to the left as she stared at the older male, trying to make sense of him. Her frown from previously was still stuck on her face while she examined the guy thoroughly.
"Yes?" she replied with a hint of uneasiness, oceanic discs staring back at black shades. She released her wrist and tucked her hair behind her ear, realizing it might help her to get a better view of the man in front of her. Who was dressed so sharply out in the middle of nowhere?
"Hey, don't worry, I'm not here to hurt you." Well, that wasn't suspicious or anything. "I just want to help you out." There was something itching in Tara's brain. Something that told her to not trust him. Something that told her that was the same lie everyone would always tell her. Everything is fine, I'll help you. It was the same lie she grew used to hearing. "Do you know where you are?"
"Uh, I don't think so," Tara responded uncertainly, taking another look around the area. Huh. She really didn't have a clue where she was.
"What's your name, dear?"
Oh. Jeez. What was her name? The girl stood frozen for a moment, mind scrambling to come up with a name. She wouldn't dare go by Terra. That was the name of someone who was dead, turned to stone. That was the name of a traitor, not the name of this blonde. It was strange, how it felt like she couldn't remember much before she met the Titans. Finally, a name came to her. "Tara. My name is Tara." Funny, how similar it was to Terra. "Tara Markov." The name seemed familiar, but she wasn't entirely sure why. It had to be her original name. She was convinced that's why it felt so familiar, yet so foreign.
"Tara. Well, Ms. Markov, you really shouldn't be standing out here in the middle of some giant field. I know a place that would be perfect for you, since you seem to be a long way from home. How would you like to come to Tenebrae? It's a great community. There's tons of kids your age there, lots of activities, and you'll have a place to call home."
Tenebrae? The place was unfamiliar to Tara, and she had been in quite a few places. One brow lowered while the other was raised in suspicion. "Tenebrae?" Her gaze lowered to the ground. She could use a place to stay. She had given up on her powers, so she wouldn't cause some natural disaster. Maybe this was her chance to finally be a normal human being, not a freak, not a traitor, not a Titan, but a normal human being. That's all she wanted, right? Her eyes lifted back up to the man.
"I... think I'll go with you." Her face brightened up to reassure the man that she was being truthful, and his face became a warm face of reassurance.
"Come along then, Ms. Markov. Trust me, you're going to love Tenebrae when you get there." Hesitantly, the girl gave a nod to the older man. What's the worst that can happen? she thought to herself as she followed the suited man, each step more optimistic than the last.
