The Outside and the In
Skandar Keynes
Appearance: Before the shift, both him and his sister were identical. After the shift, there were slight differences, something that disappoints him greatly. He misses the identical look they used to have. Unlike, Tekla, Feo has black hair and brown eyes. However, they still have a similar build, and if you knew they were twins, there would be obvious similarities in their faces. He is a little taller than most ten year-olds, and is taller than Tekla because of this. He is actually quite proud of this, despite it only separating him and his twin more.
Feo is very fluid in his movements and always in motion. If you were to compare the movements to anything, you would probably go with a meerkat. Despite the eraticness of the way he moves, he is always in sync with his sister. You might say it seems like their brains are linked. So much so that, when separated, they are almost rendered unable to move, breathe, eat, drink, etc. This can be a major disadvantage.
One thing I should mention before I go any farther is that he, like his sister, is mute. Before the shift, the two communicated with each other by flashing the lights in their eyes at one another, exchanging information, but they can no longer do this. They can't write and have never learned sign language either, so, really, they can't speak. Sometimes, through movements, they can communicate simple things, but it is still difficult. The two still seem to be able to speak with one another. Perhaps through their almost 'linked' brains.
As for clothing, Feo most often wears very comfortable clothing in a blue shade and, sometimes, stripes. Generally, he wears a darker blue hoodie (with hoddie up) with a pair of sweatpants. His favorite pair is the same color as the hoodie with lighter blue and yellow vertical stripes.
Personality: Feo is much calmer and easily frightened than his sister. Sure, he is just a curious and childlike as she is, but he is much more careful about it. He also lacks the little bit of hyperness that Telka has. In a couple words, Feo is calm, nervous, and curious.
His gestures also tend to be small, and easy to miss, as if he doesn't want to be noticed. And, perhaps, that is his deepest, darkest desire. Really, he wants nothing more than to sink into the ground and disappear. But that is a secret to everyone. Even Telka. It's not really that he wants to die, exactly, it's just that he doesn't feel right in his own skin. He didn't feel like that before the shift, and so he wants nothing more than to go home. While it's not in his nature, him doing something dangerous and careless to go home isn't too hard of a thought for him. The only reason he hasn't tried something like running away or dying is that his sister can't or won't follow him in either of those scenarios. After losing so much, there is no way he will give up any thing more.
Which brings me to something else. Everything he does, he does for his sister and his sister alone. He is completely thoughtless to himself, or really anyone else. If his sister wished him dead, he might actually decide to kill himself right then and there. That might be extreme, but it is the truth. Also, because of the losses in life, he hates 'good-byes', even if he knows it is temporary. It is to such an extent that even hearing the word, can send him into an angry state that is hard to shake off. He also has a strong phobia of death. Not his own, but anyone else's.
Unlike his sister, he doesn't really like the library for the very reason she loves it. It reminds him of home and, again, of what he has lost. For her sake, though, he goes.
One more thing you should know is that he is a pessimist.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Feo and Telka were created in destroyed world. While this could have been their complete downfall, they chose instead to focus their curiosity on this fact. They ended up becoming the official intakers of information and were pretty much living (technically), walking archives. Because of their curiosity, they never held still enough to let their creator put in a voice box so they were left entirely mute. Since they were two parts of the same bit of soul, they were still able to communicate with one another since they were more or less linked to one another.
They were discovered in 'the emptiness' by someone who would eventually become a mother figure named 7. Through the time, and even after, they lived with 1 and the others, they depended largely on her, and kind of followed her around. When 7 decided to leave, finally fed up with 1, they came with her and discovered a library to live in.
They lived there a for quite some time until the day that 7 brought back 9 and 5 with her. They had awoken 'something terrible' and they needed their knowledge to figure out what it was and how to destroy it. They helped as best they could and eventually succeed, or they thought, in getting rid of it, losing two very good friends--2 and 8--in the process. Feo took this much harder than Telka. They quickly discovered that they had, in fact, failed and only made the thing more dangerous. 5, 6, and 1 were killed before the thing was finally destroyed. Again, Feo took this harder than his sister. 9 was able to free the souls of their lost friends and they went on 'living' their 'lives'. They became very close to 9 and 7 and they were finally starting to make some headway into making more people like them.
Key Moment: 3 and 4 had decided to visit the graveyard one day and, after having settled down in front of the grave of 6, there was a bright light and they found themselves in a very different place neither of them recognized.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
4 blinked and looked around. Where are we? he wondered, and he suddenly began to shake. This wasn’t only from the fact that he was somewhere that he had never seen, not even in all his books, but also because there was something on his body. He could feel it.
That was a very new word for him to use. He’d read about it in a book called the New Webster’s Dictionary, but he had never been able to define it until now. But now, he could feel something. Something, he supposed, that might be called cold. It was rushing up and down his body and making him shiver. That’s a new word too, he thought.
Something stopped this cold down at his hand and his gaze drifted from the world around him to beside him. There was someone there. A part of him told him that this was 3 and that she was holding his hand very tightly.
‘Are you scared?’ he tried to flash, but he found that no light came from his eyes.
His mouth opened in shock and he ripped his hand out of 3’s grip. He reached toward his eyes and felt a great rush pain (another new word) around that area. He leaped back, wondering what caused this and looked forward. The only thing he could see was his own finger. Had he hurt himself? How could he have hurt the steel and glass that acted as his eyes?
That’s was when he finally realized that his hands were brass anymore. They were something else. The word flesh came to mind.
Am I… his thought was cut off by the weight of a hand on his shoulder.
He turned to look. There was a man in black standing behind him. And behind 3 there was a woman all in black. These are humans, he thought, humans that still have flesh on their bodies and breath in their lungs.
It had been a very long time since he had seen a real living person. For some reason, it scared him. He took a step away from the man’s hand and he looked back and forth between the man and the women. There were obvious similarities between the two. Are they twins? Like me and 3? he wondered.
“Hello,” said the man cheerfully.
“Hello,” the woman echoed.
3’s eyes—human eyes—lit up (not in the same way they had before, he noted sadly), and she reached forward. She grabbed the woman’s throat gently and began looking it over. She tapped it, lightly, and then pushed up with one hand. Speak. The woman smiled, not really minding the encounter. “I’m Sallee and this is my brother Simon,” she said.
3 seemed filled with delight, but 4 was frightened, no, terrified. They weren’t home. This was somewhere new, somewhere foreign he didn’t know and it wasn’t right. It didn’t fit.
“What are you names?” Sallee asked.
3 finished looking at the woman’s throat and she scrambled over to 4. 4 scrunched behind her, peering awkwardly, although slightly cutely, over her shoulder. He suddenly found that he was taller than her and that it was harder to then it once was to squeeze himself behind her.
3 pointed to the left side of her chest at the pen scrawl there. Since he had seen it a million times before, 4 knew exactly what was there. It was their number, or rather, their name. 3. She then pointed down at the right side of his chest. 4.
“Welcome to reality,” Sallee and Simon said, eerily in sync.
I don’t trust you, he thought, I don’t like you.
“We’ve come to take you somewhere you can be safe. And you’ll be around more people like you. People who don’t know where you are,” Simon said.
No. 4 thought immediately.
“It’s called Tenebrae.” No. “And it’s wonderful.” No. “You’ll never be bored.” No. “Or without someone to talk to,” Sallee said, holding out her hand, “Please come.”
NO! 4 thought one final time.
But 3 reached out her hand. 4 watched in shock. Don’t go, he pleaded silently, Don’t make me follow. There’s something that isn’t right. Something is wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
But before he knew it, they were sitting in a machine called a car that he had never seen working before heading to a place that was very, very wrong.

Georgie Henley
Appearance: As mentioned in Feo's form, the twins, while identical previously, now have different appearances. Like her brother, Telka is very disappointed by this. She has red(ish) hair and bright blue eyes, opposite from Feo's dark colors. They're face shape and build, however, are very similar. She is at least a head shorter than Feo, something she pretends not to notice, despite the fact that it bothers her.
Telka also has very smooth movements close to her brother's. They are always in sync with Feo's, almost as if they're minds are 'linked' in some way. The way she moves is much livelier than Feo's, though, showing her slightly hyper behavior. She is also slightly more unpredictable as to what she'll do next, since Feo is usually the follower and she is the leader.
Again, it is important to note, that she communicates in a very similar way to Feo, as she can't talk either. She seems more open to the idea of learning to write than her brother, and is even able to write both her and Feo's first names. She has taken to writing them down on a name tag and putting it on their shirts every morning (this annoys Feo greatly, which might be half the reason she does it).
Personality: In a few words, Telka is focused, unpredictable, and curious. Her gestures are dramatic and hard to miss because she feels like communication is one of the most important things in the world and one of the only things she can't do. You will often see her nudging Feo with her elbow when she is talking to someone else. That's her trying to get him active in their conversation.
One thing that might surprise you is that Telka is highly mischievous. She likes to tease and sometimes even annoy people. She would never bring it to extreme level, though. She is also highly protective of her 'little' brother, and is likely the one to stand up for them if they were being bullied. You shouldn't put it past her to beat someone up (if she can) who even thinks of hurting Feo.
Telka is oddly determined. Sadly, she is determined in the exact opposite way that Feo is. She has sworn never to go back to where they came from. Sure, she misses 7 and 9, the library, and the graves of all of their friends, but here it's so... happy. So alive. She has taken a great liking to nature and wishes for nothing more than to have seen it before now. It is the closest thing to perfection she has ever seen.
She is way too trusting when it comes to other people. Once you exchange 'hello's, you're friends and unless you try to kill her (or her brother), you stay on that list. This makes her clingy, and perhaps annoying to some people. Feo tries to steer her away from this behavior as much as possible since he knows it's dangerous, but so far nothing is working.
She often goes to the library and will spend hours at a time there. It feels like home to her, and, while she doesn't really want to go back, it is comforting. She also likes to spend a lot of time on the computer learning things. Losing the ability to literally absorb information has been a hard loss to her, and, so far, learning new things is actually difficult for her. She is still trying her best to know about everything she can.
One last thing you should know is that she is a optimist.

3 opened her eyes and did something she had never done before. She sucked in a breath. Her hand flew to her mouth and she breathed again. There. She could feel it. A sudden rush of air.
She gave a little jump of delight and reached for 4’s hand.
His gaze went down to her and she smiled widely. ‘I can breathe, I can breathe!’ she tried to flash. To her surprise she failed.
Apparently 4 had realized this two, because he reached toward his eye. She suddenly realized that he was reaching towards a real eye. An eye that wasn’t made out of a camera lens, but a real eye with an iris and retina and everything.
She looked down at hands. Her hands. They were hands with fingernails and little wrinkles at the knuckles.
We are human! she thought, her mind whirling with shock and happiness, We are human!
Now, she looked around her. There a plant growing out of the ground called grass, something she had just begun to notice growing out of the ground back where they had been before. And then there were huge trees, something she hadn’t dreamed of seeing for many years to come. And there were flowers and a little creature she thought was called a squirrel scampered by.
At the moment, she didn't care where she was, but she was somewhere amazing.
She looked back up to meet the eyes of someone else. Someone who wasn’t 4. It was a woman, and, next to her, a man who had his hand on 4’s shoulder. She kind of stumbled back, more out of shock rather than fright.
“Hello,” the man said.
“Hello,” said the woman, repeating for no clear reason that she could see.
3 felt a sudden rush of curiosity and she lunged forward almost as suddenly as she had gone back. She reached for the woman’s throat, not really thinking about what consequences their might be. It was a good thing the woman didn’t seem to mind.
She kind felt at the throat for a moment, almost feeling a tube like thing just below the surface of the skin. A long time ago, she had read that it would vibrate when someone spoke.
I don’t think I can speak… 3 thought a little sadly before pushing her right hand up, Please speak. Is that true? Is that true?
“I’m Sallee and this is my brother Simon,” the woman said with an entertained smile.
And it did actually vibrate. It is true. That is how they speak. If I could speak, my throat would vibrate, too. Can I speak? Can I speak? 3 wondered excitedly.
Sallee spoke again, “What are your names?”
3 removed my hand, her curiosity fulfilled, and rushed back towards 4. He quickly hid behind her, which wasn’t too surprising. What was surprising that it was hard for him to do now. He was taller.
She blinked in shock, but quickly recovered and pointed at the left side of her chest. 3. My name is 3. She pointed at the right side of her brother’s chest. And he is 4.
“We’ve come to take you somewhere you can be safe. And you’ll be around more people like you. People who don’t know where you are,” Simon said.
3 smiled and nodded her head excitedly. Stay here? That sounded wonderful. She never wanted to leave.
“It’s called Tenebrae. And it’s wonderful. You’ll never be bored. Or without someone to talk to,” Sallee said, and she held out her hand to me, “Please come.” 3 reached towards the hand eagerly. Take me! she thought, Please. I want to come!
They were taken to a machine called a car, that, oddly enough, ran. Something that had never seen. Don’t make me go back, she thought, Let me stay her. In this wonderland.
