Bella Thorne
Appearance:
In her new human world, Ariel holds herself with a sort of eagerness and excitement that shows in her movements. She is quick to react to things and people, no matter how insignificant they might seem to others, and that generally means a lot of excited, wild hand gestures, personal space invasions and clumsy interactions. She doesn't seem to understand much about human behavior yet, and can sometimes lose herself and her manners to her own bright curiosity and excitement of being in such a different place. This will make her seem odd, to say the least, and she might not know hold herself properly, but as she stays in Tenebrae longer she might begin to seem less and less awkward in movements, at least by a small amount. Being graceful underwater doesn't seem to transfer the same on land.
Ariel is a petite girl in figure and build. She has very light skin, almond-shaped blue eyes and long, wavy red hair which bear a striking resemblance to her original appearance. The most and only drastic change, of course, is that rather than having a shimmering green-scaled tail fin taking up her lower body, she now has two human legs to complete her new human appearance. As for clothing, she tends to go for the more girly in style and will opt for anything as long as there is a splash of bright color in her outfit somewhere. Dark colors don't usually fit in with her personality, and she feels that they are too serious and dark on her. She does, however, obsess over jewelry, and that is displayed frequently in the amount of bracelets, necklaces and accessories she keeps on her at one time. Though she does not generally show it in her outfits, she isn't bothered or ashamed by showing too much skin since she formerly wore a bikini as her main outfit. Of course, that will most likely be frowned upon in school settings of Tenebrae, so she has to learn about clothing here and how to wear it properly.
Personality:
Ariel is bright in personality and easily excitable when it comes to new things and situations. She is very inquisitive, and that has led her to overlook dangers she would normally know to avoid on countless occasions. This gives her an air of naivety, but also of optimism and confidence. She is eager to learn new things, but also a bit gullible in certain cases and more than often she is forgetful. If there weren't people existing to warn her of dangers and dangerous people, it wouldn't be unlikely that she would run into them rather obliviously. Her peers have even often described her as having her "head stuck in the sand," which appropriately fits this scenario.
A hopeless dreamer could describe Ariel's general attitude on life. As a mermaid, she could never stop thinking about the human world and wishing she were one of them rather than enjoying her life as a mermaid. Being with them seemed impossible to most other merfolk, but to Ariel she seemed to think it was for sure obtainable, and without consequence. Call it overly-trusting or just plain hopeful, but it was how she often thought about things. She had something she wanted, and there was no doubt in her mind that she could get it if she tried, and that others who spoke with reason could be wrong somehow. She constantly seems to want to find the positive side of things rather than to even consider the negative, and so the worst turn of events will come crashing down on her like a rock when she finally realizes it and is unable to find anything positive to think of. This leaves her feeling more upset than others, who might have already seen the turn of events coming from a mile away just by using logic and reason.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History:
Ariel was born to King Triton; ruler of the sea, and Queen Athena, who passed away after she had a fateful encounter with pirates when Ariel was very young. This left King Triton with his seven daughters to care for; Aquata, Andrina, Arista, Attina, Adella, Alana and finally, Ariel. Out of all of his daughters, Ariel was the youngest and the favorite of Triton, as she reminded him of himself when he was a young merman and also closely resembled him out of the seven. Ariel also strongly resembles her mother, which only adds to the favoritism on her behalf.
Because Ariel is King Triton's favorite daughter, he has become fiercely overprotective over her and heavily tries to influence her life and decisions, and then controlling them if he must. Though Ariel loves her father, their views have become heavily conflicting once her curiosity was set on the world above the ocean and of humans. Ariel soon began sneaking out of singing practices with her best fish friend Flounder and exploring abandoned shipwrecks in search of human artifacts to keep in her private grotto. Collecting all of these misplaced items and finding out how they worked made her feel like she could understand and be closer to the humans.
She was naturally a gifted singer, and better than her sisters. They were all supposed to sing in concert to honor their father with Ariel singing the solo, but on the eve of the concert forgot to attend and left to go treasure hunting in the shipwrecks. There, her and Flounder encountered and narrowly escaped a giant shark in order to find a fork and a pipe. Once returning to the palace, her father was enraged at her for missing the concert. Flounder then made the mistake of defending her by telling King Triton that they had encountered a shark and went to the surface, which only infuriated King Triton more. King Triton yelled at Ariel and forbid her from going to the surface again, warning her of the danger of humans and that they would kill her if they saw her. Ariel, distraught, swam back to her grotto in tears. She confided to Flounder of how she collected so many trinkets from the humans, but that it wasn't enough for her to feel like she was happy. Her real dream was to be able to go up with them and experience their life for herself without having to hide or be confined to the bottom of the ocean because of her father's wishes.
Key Moment:
Ariel was taken just as she saw Prince Eric's ship's shadow passing above her grotto, and was about to swim up to investigate.

A Roleplaying Shift

A large shadow passed overhead and blocked out what little sunlight filtered into the grotto. Ariel quickly looked up with rounded blue eyes as she wondered what the object could be that was floating above the waves. She swam out of the gap in the grotto's ceiling and headed up to the surface, closer and closer to the sound of crashing waves and loud voices from above.
She was just about to break surface when everything suddenly grew dark. Ariel blinked her eyes to try to clear her vision, but the clear ocean waters had suddenly shifted into a murky brown. She quickly discovered that she couldn't breathe as she swallowed and began to choke on the water. Flailing her arms, she desperately broke her head above the surface and began coughing. The mermaid tried to look around but was having trouble keeping her head above water. Her body felt suddenly weighed down and heavy and her tail fin wasn't working properly as it should have. "Help-p-p!" Ariel spluttered in the water as she flailed her arms and wildly splashed the surface. Something terrible had happened to her! She was sick or injured, or something!
Her eyes lit up in panic as she started to sink further. The flailing wasn't doing anything to help her, and her arms were growing tired. She started to fall below the water again just as something roughly latched onto her arms and hauled her above the surface. Ariel coughed up water and fought to catch her breath as the arms of two beings lifted her onto a very small floating vessel. Ship- that's what it was called. She remembered seeing them broken and lying on the ocean floor, but she had never been this close to one before. Let alone, aboard one. "You- you're humans!" Ariel gasped as she looked up at them. They were two men and a woman, all with similar dark scale-coats. Being a mermaid aboard a human ship, she probably should be terrified, but Ariel could only stare up at them in wonder. She had never seen a human so close, and there were only a few of them here.
"Here dear, I have some clothing for you to put on here. And do you need some help standing up to put them on?" The woman approached Ariel and leaned down to hand her a bundle.
Ariel took the scale-coats and held them up to examine with a look of skepticism. She pulled at the fabric and turned it over and over in her hand. So this is what a scale-coat looked like, and apparently it could be removed? She bundled up the top scale-coat and tried to hold it up against her. No, that wasn't it, it wouldn't stay on! As she turned it over again, she suddenly discovered that there were holes. Holes for what? She peered through one as if it had something to do with looking through.
"No darling, you put it over your head. Put your head through the center hole and your arms through the others." The woman came over and after a lot of hassle, finally could get Ariel to slip her arms and head through the shirt properly. "There you go. Now, would you like some help standing up so that we can get your pants on?"
"Stand… up?" Ariel looked confused. Stand up like them? But she couldn't stand up, or did they not understand? "But- I have a…" she turned to gesture toward her tail fin, but then gaped in surprise. It was gone. Her tail fin was gone… and she had real human legs in their place! The look of wonder and excitement in Ariel's expression was similar to that of a child opening gifts as she turned her head to beam at the woman and excitedly gestured with her arms to her new legs. The woman smiled, though not really understanding what the girl was suddenly overjoyed about. She leaned over and pulled the girl up by her arm. "Here, let me help you. And what is your name dear?"
Ariel immediately stumbled and fell into the woman, unable to balance on her new appendages. They were so wobbly and difficult, and the boat was also unsteady as it moved across the water. Still, she grinned as was helped into her second scale-coat. "My name's Ariel."
"Well, Ariel, you are far from your world I'm afraid, but don't worry; we have everything you could ever need here at Tenebrae. We'll help settle you in while we work on getting you back." The woman informed her with a nod.
Ariel nodded cheerfully, but she didn't want to go back. She was finally in the place she had always wanted to be in.
