Hiro had actually been wandering about the restaurants for some time before finally deciding to drop a few of his hard earned coins at the Hattery. It was late, his shift having just ended at the local mall, and he'd been hoping to pick up something fairly light to munch on while he headed home. He opted for a to-go container of soup, which he held between his hands, both of which were wrapped in a pair fingerless gloves. Steam rolled off the container, even more steam than what puffed out of Hiro's mouth. Both curled into the air, beckoning heat in this chilly weather.
When you needed to get back to the living quarters in a hurry, you really only had a few options. There was a bus that hit the various places to help everyone, but it stopped going after midnight, and it was just a few ticks after (the Hattery having been open late for a few people getting off the last shift; it wasn't like the residents had a lot in the way of options). No bus meant that Hiro had to call for the cabs which, thankfully, were free to residents, especially late at night. however, he also knew that there couldn't be many left at this point. So he hurried to the cab's stopping point, nearly racing.
He got there just in time: a cab rolling up to the spot. Hiro held up a hand and started to hail it, only to be aware that someone else had gotten there at the same time as he. He paused, looking the other person over. The hero in Hiro roared up, and he gestured for the other to take the cab.
"Ya both might want ta get in," barked the driver, a grizzled old woman who peered up at them. She took a hit from a cigarette and smiled with yellow teeth. "This is the last cab for the night. Don't worry," she smiled, "I drive great."
Hiro looked at the other person, shrugging. It wasn't like they had choice. Last cab, so they'd have to share...
