The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB
Robert Sheehan
Appearance: The change from snowman to human has made a big difference to Olaf's looks, though he still has his usual dorky grin and those big, expressive eyes. His straggly twig hair has been replaced by erratic curls, though they are certainly no more tidy than they used to be, especially as he's not really used to any kind of personal grooming. His body's a bit more proportional now, of course, though he was quite a chubby little snowman in places, he seems to have evened out a lot in human form, and he's a bit on the skinny side (though his arms, of course, are bigger - no twigs arms for human Olaf). His nose, of course, is not nearly so prominent. The biggest difference as far as he's concerned is the loss of the ability to detach any body parts, he never realised how useful that skill was until he couldn't do it any more. Sometimes, though, he forgets and will try and tug off his arm or lift his head to see something.
Clothes are the biggest excitement for him now he's human, all the exciting gear he never got to wear as a snowman are finally open to him, and he couldn't be happier about it. Sunglasses are his favourite, no matter the weather, because they remind him of summer. Scarfs and jumpers and other cozy knitwear make him happy as well, because now he can actually get away with being warm without melting. Anything brightly coloured or exciting, particularly if it has any sort of motifs depicting summer themes, catches his attention - also anything that might remind him of his friends back home, so reindeer patterns are also a big hit. He has no concept of fashion or gender-appropriate, so he'd be just as likely to wear a big, bright jumper with a colourful skirt as he would with a completely clashing pair of trousers.
His physicality is a little different now that his form has changed so much, but the gangly limbs of his new shape just allow him to be even more physically expressive than he used to be, and he makes up for not being able to remove limbs by flinging them all over the place while they're still attached. He gives the impression of not having complete control over his body.
Personality: Olaf is the kindest, friendliest, most helpful person you could ever hope to meet - at least he tries to be helpful, when he can. He's essentially the living embodiment of Elsa's wish to return to childhood, and the love she shares with Anna, so he's got a certain childlike innocence himself. He doesn't really have a bad word to say about anybody - until they do something really mean, of course, like try to hurt any of his friends, then you are definitely on his 'do not like' list, though if faced with anybody on that list the worst thing he'd probably do is glare at them, or try and throw one of his arms.
He thinks the best of everybody until proven otherwise, and sometimes even then he'll misconstrue any negativity and just assume everybody is the best of friends, even if it might be obvious to everyone else that they're not.
He's a little bit scatterbrained, and not always the quickest on the uptake, though he has his moments of wisdom and likes to consider himself something of a love expert (not without cause, as he is the one who explains to Anna what true love really is, and the first one to realise how the spell was broken), those moments are rare and only really surface when it's most important, most of the time he's happy to be carefree and shallow, not really reading much into things and just going with the flow of life.
He doesn't really have much concept of a dangerous situation, as he's so used to being essentially indestructible, so he'll walk headfirst into danger without even thinking about it, especially for a friend. It's not so much bravery as it is naivety, the way a child doesn't really have any concept of what a dangerous situation really means. He is a fairly quick learner and once he knows that something is bad he'll be careful to avoid it - fire, for example, he has learnt not to touch - but he won't automatically assume anything is going to harm him until it does.
He loves summer, though he's still just as cheerful during the winter months he can't wait for the sunshine to come back, so he's super excited about any sign of it - flowers growing, the first sunny day, all of it are enough to put him in an even better mood than usual, and he loves to share his good mood around with everybody. If you're sad around Olaf, prepare for a warm hug.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: (here be spoilers)
Originally, Olaf was created by Elsa when she and Anna were children, though this was before he was really animate and he doesn't remember this encounter at all. When Elsa left the palace and went up to the mountains, she created Olaf while she was learning how to use her powers and what she could really do, so she hadn't realised at the time that she had given him life as well as rebuilt him.
He was happy and content from the first moment he was given sentience, so he was quite happy to meander around the mountains, not even sure what he was looking for until he bumped into Anna and Kristoff (or, as he thought at the time, Sven) - of course he did know where he came from, and he'd seen Elsa creating her ice palace, so when Anna mentioned where she was trying to get to, he knew the way and was more than happy to lead his new friends where they were going.
Since he didn't really have anything else to do, and he'd grown quickly attached to Anna, he was happy to follow them around - they were, after all, his first ever friends, and he was going to stick by them no matter what. At first it wasn't the most exciting trip ever, he showed them where the castle was and got to know them a little better, and then he got to sit outside the castle with Kristoff without really knowing what was going on inside, though he was more than happy to tag along and sit outside counting, he doesn't really know the meaning of 'boredom'. Plus, then it got really exciting, really quickly.
First there was his new friend Marshmallow, only he didn't seem to want to be friends with them even though Olaf tried his hardest to be friendly, and then there was a desperate race to Kristoff's family to try and save Anna. Sure he was a little bit worried that Kristoff was crazy at first, but it turned out that his family were actually trolls. That was very exciting, and a lot of fun - if it wasn't for the fact that they had to rush Anna home to save her. He knows it's very important to rush back, but he isn't really distraught about the whole situation, he isn't really sure how to be, so he still manages to find moments of cheerfulness even as they race back to Arendelle to get Anna to Hans.
He's a little late to the party, but it's lucky that he is, because by the time he finds Anna she's alone and nearly frozen. He builds a fire, without realising what it would do to him, though even after he does he knows it's more important to keep her warm than save himself, of course he does realise that saving both of them would probably be the most helpful if he can. He's the one that explains to Anna what true love really means.
Everything gets a bit more exciting then, though Olaf isn't overly involved - it's hard to keep up when you have such little legs and the entire world is a snowstorm, but he manages to at least stay close enough that he's still part of the action when Elsa and Anna are both saved. He's also the first person to realise (or at least, to voice his realisation) that it was Anna's true love for Elsa that thawed her heart.
Elsa returns summer and Olaf is very almost at risk of melting - though he's still not overly concerned about this, he's too busy being glad that everybody is safe and happy. That doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate it when Elsa conjures his own personal flurry of course, finally he can enjoy the summer he'd always longed to see!
Key Moment: Not long after the events of the movie, Olaf is spending his days enjoying the sunshine and generally just being a happy little snowman. He's having a perfectly normal day, hanging out with Sven and collecting flowers to take to Anna when he disappears.

When it happened, Olaf didn't even realise, right away, that it had happened. He happily reached for the next flower to add to the bunch still clutched in his hand, and even when he saw the pale human arm reaching down for the flower he didn't immediately figure out that it belonged to him. He spun around to try and see who had joined him, perhaps he could make a new friend!
Of course, there was nobody there, and he spun around a couple of times looking utterly confused, dropping his flowers in the process. The spinning made him fall over, a process that seemed to take a little more time than it usually did, and just felt... weird.
It was then that he realised that Sven was nowhere to be seen, and when he sat up to try and find him, he noticed the legs stretched out in front of him. The legs that appeared to belong to him. He looked behind him to make sure it wasn't another Kristoff situation, but nope, definitely his legs. He poked them with excited interest, as intrigued as he had been by his own nose when Anna gave it to him. That was how the Suits found him, sitting on the cold, damp ground and poking his own legs, giggling intermittently.
"Excuse me, sir?" the first Suit coughed politely. Olaf looked up delightedly and scrambled to his feet.
"Hi! I'm Olaf and I like warm hugs!" he beamed, causing the second to snort slightly and mutter something about wishing they were all that easy.
"Okay, Olaf, we're going to need you to come with us, we-"
"Okay." Olaf agreed, staring at him with wide, trusting eyes. The second Suit was still laughing, though the first one seemed a bit confused at such an instant reply, he was waiting for the catch.
"So, we're just going to go this way, and take you to a safe place..." he continued cautiously, motioning for Olaf to follow them and taking a few hesitant steps.
"Okay!" Olaf agreed again, already happily following them. He had no reason to mistrust them, and maybe they would be able to tell him where he was and what was happening.
