Appearance:
Delbert Doppler is very thin and lanky, hunching due to always being over microscopes for work. He has bags under his eyes due to long nights of intense reading with just the night light and wears reading glasses on occasion. He is very meticulous about his appearance when it comes to his clothing, though this isn’t the same with his work place.
Now having “Shifted” his canine ears and nose has been replaced with human ones. His eyes also changing shape so he looks like an average man. He still has bony fingers and a wide lopsided smile and still carries himself with a nervous stance because he’s not very good in social situations until he gets to know anyone. His hair is a sandy blonde, almost caramel colour and he appears to age quicker due to stress. Despite this he has a nice face, handsome but in a quirky way. He has a very quick tempo voice which gets higher when he’s stressed and a very sarcastic sense of humour.
Personality:
Delbert is a very nervous character. He is not good in company he doesn’t know and without meaning too can sound like a snob because he’s never been good with social interaction. With this in mind he is also very careful. He does think before he speaks, the issue is usually not realising what he is saying is wrong. Strangers find this trait annoying, friends can find it charming depending on the comment.
Delbert dreams of being an explorer and discovering new science but is terrified of an unplanned adventure that doesn’t go the way he wants it. He is also heavily reliant on technology – so reliant that if technology can’t fix a problem it does cause him to panic, which will be a problem in the underdeveloped world of Earth that he has been shifted to. He can suffer greatly with anxiety if he hasn’t got control of a situation, which is why he prefers to be on his own.
Delbert is scared to love anyone after his incident with Sarah and doesn’t trust his emotions. He would prefer to run away from love than have it because he doesn’t feel comfortable enough with the idea that he would have to rely on someone else.
Despite these anti-social traits Delbert can be a very positive force once he gets to know someone. He is a very good listener, because he understands how hard it is to worry with no one to speak to and can give quite helpful advice. Advice he never takes himself of course. He can be furiously loyal, a Caninian trait from his full blooded Caninian father. He really likes having friends when he has them but is scared to lose them, which becomes a repeated cycle.

History:
Delbert Doppler was born in Montresser, a little planet similar to Earth to a half human mother and Caninian (dog hybrid human) father. Due to the first initial outbreaks of the Caninian kind on Earth hundreds of years before and their life being discriminated there are very few of their kind left. This lead Delbert to be bullied when he ended up attending school with many other races. He avoided friendships and threw all of himself into education which was where he felt his most secure especially in science.
It was his love of science that through him into Montresser’s University (not far from the space-port) where he studied Astrophysics and the expansion of modern technology. It was this that felt the most natural to him so that’s where he stayed pouring himself over books and studying trying to ignore the constant pressure to fit in with his peers. He became friends accidently with a woman named Sarah who worked at the university cafe who he became incredibly close with. At first he was amused by her earth ways and how she didn’t enjoy Montresser, then he was impressed with her vitality, and then he was seriously in love with her.
Poor Delbert never approached her or expressed these feelings to her and so soon Sarah Hawkins fell in love with a man named Leland and had a child with him, little Jim, whilst Delbert was still studying for a doctorate in astrophysics more lonely than ever. Sarah moved away and left the café, opening her own Inn and Delbert became incredibly well off working in a very intense science lab for the university. As the years after his learning passed he began to realise it wasn’t exactly what he wanted, despite his education he wanted to explore all he had learnt about first hand. However, with leaving to go exploring it would mean leaving Sarah behind. Something he wasn’t ready to do.
Key Moment: Delbert Doppler was packing his things to visit the Benbow Inn when he Shifted, he has just found out from a distraught Sarah that Jim’s father, her husband Leland has walked out on them. He was about to lend a support and a shoulder to cry on. (For canon purposes, Jim is about 8 years old, set 10 years before Treasure Planet)
When Delbert arrives in the Shifted he is only slightly confused at his appearance and despite remembering most things it is only his most immediate memory of the key moment that he has displaced and has no recollection of the day that he Shifted from.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
For Delbert Doppler everything was a suddenly blur and then everything was crystal clear. It felt like someone was testing your eyesight with the added rushing feeling of a space-bus driving too quickly at the space station. It was then that Delbert realised he was suddenly sitting on a floor he didn’t know, he began gazing about what looked to be a middle of a school classroom, a classroom that seemed very out of date and nothing like his old classroom at all. He blinked a couple of times in confusion, and then stared with confusion at his hands.
His bony hands were no longer covered in fur, another check after another blink. They were definitely covered in fur a couple of moments ago.
Breath. In. Out. Just breath.
“You’re not going crazy Delbert…you’ve just had a tough time recently that’s all…” the doctor told himself, stroking the backs of his hands to see skin. Human skin, like his mothers.
This had to be some sort of joke. This had to be a trick. Even as he thought this he reached his new shiny human hand to his nose, but there was no canine snout there, nor did he have his canine ears that used to jauntily sit on the side of his face.
“Sir, sir are you alright?”
Delbert was still holding onto his ears in complete and utter bewilderment when the suits came towards him. The young doctor stood up quickly and flailed his arms backing away to the desks and slamming into them as he tried to get as far from them as possible.
“Who are you? Where am I? What happened to my ears, my face. Why…?” Delbert was incredibly distressed as he voice only escalated in pitch as he backed away, his eyes staring at the men who’d come in to which they only sighed.
“We have a lot to explain Doctor, perhaps we could do so over tea, if you would entertain us for just a couple of minutes?”
Delbert who really was in no mood to do anything but cry in the corner, let alone a cup of tea, nodded sheepishly. He finally let go of his new ears and stepped towards the suits, still shaking like a leaf. The poor doctor just wished he were back in his own little home with his books and his space globes, unable to recall what he had been doing before all this commotion.
