Appearance: He has black hair with some natural dark brown highlights, and he keeps it either quite shaggy, or spiky. His skin is very tan naturally and he has chocolate brown eyes. Mako has always had good posture, and tends to carry himself like he's an important person. He is about 6'1" tall and has a very toned body. He has a couple of scars on his body from firebending, but nothing too serious. He has always been a fashion forward kind of guy, but no matter what he wears, Mako always has to have his red scarf around his neck. To him, it's one of the most important things in the world. When he talks about something he is quite passionate about, he seems a little "animated".
Personality: Mako has also been quite mature and grown up for his young age due to becoming an orphan at only eight years old and having to take care of his younger brother. Most of the time, he is indifferent, even though he can act very protective towards his loved ones and be very kind to others when he wants to be. He cares very deeply for his brother and is more protective of him than anyone else he knows, besides the Avatar, Korra. Sometimes he can act critical of Bolin, and he is a bit of a control freak. But that's just because he wants to keep Bolin safe. The two brothers are very close to each others and would do anything for the other.
Due to the rough life he's had, at times he can act without mercy. Mako is definitely not afraid to get what he wants through "necessary violence" as he calls it, especially if it has to do with protecting a loved one. One of his major fears is him abandoning or losing someone, which stems from losing his parents to the firebender at such a young age. This is also a big part of the reason of why he acts so protective towards his brother, Korra, and others.
He tends to hide his emotions a lot and has great control of them most of the time. It doesn't happen too often when Mako loses control of his emotions, but when it does, watch out. He can be quite cruel when it happens. But once he does cool down, he is usually very apologetic and a little embarrassed. He has a very steady and calm mind, which is needed in order to be able to bend lightning (which Mako can do). Since he had lived on the streets for many years, he has seen terrible things, so not a lot surprises him. He is a great firebender, knows not to abuse it. since he knows the consequences of using it for wrong very well. He tried to shield Bolin away from the horrible violence of that life the best he could. Even though he is a little cautious around people, he can loosen up and have fun with his friends and brother.He is very popular with the ladies with his good looks, but is a little bit aloof when it comes to them. He's always had a little bit of trouble romantically.

History:
Mako was born in Republic City. His mother from the Fire Nation while his father was from the Earth Kingdom. When he was two years, his younger brother Bolin was born. As they grew older, it became clear that Bolin was an earthbender while Make was a firebender. At the ripe age of eight, Mako saw his both of his parents get murdered by a firebending mugger. The only thing that Mako has of his parents is his father's old red scarf. They began to live on the streets, and as the oldest, Mako had to mature a lot in a short amount of time, and began to take on a more parental role for Bolin. He was majorly deprived of the childhood that he should've had, and as a result, he became a little more reserved and more cautious about things.
Life was very dangerous for them from then on, and as Bolin being the only family he has, he resorted to firebending as a way to protect themselves from criminals. As a way of survival, the two young brothers began skilled at doing "small-time scams" in the city, and as a result, it got them into the Triple Threat Triad, also known as the Triple Threats. The TTT is a very well known criminal organization which quickly became the most powerful bending triad in Republic City. Mako and Bolin only joined them to help fend for themselves, but after a while they left it because Mako realized how dangerous that sort of gangster life was. He vowed to never to go down that dark path again, and then forbade Bolin to have any contact with the TTT.
Toza, a former pro-bender, scouted out Mako and Bolin, thinking that they could have potential as pro-benders in the Pro-Bending Tournament, a place where teams of three pro-benders compete for the Championship. He offered them both a place to stay, which in the attic of the Pro-bending Arena. In order to pay rent, they would work on unusual jobs for Toza, which also allowed them to focus on practicing their bending skills. Mako, Bolin, and their friend, Hasook, founded their own pro-bending team, the Fire Ferrets, which Mako became the team captain of.
He met Korra, the current Avatar, when Bolin brought her in backstage of the Pro-bender Arena to the Fire Ferrets' dressing rooms, He acted like she wasn't even there since he thought it was one of his brothers many fangirls, which irritated her.
Mako remembers everything of his past.
Key Moment: A couple of nights after Korra's first encounter with Mako, he, Bolin, and their other teammate were getting ready for a match against the Golden Temple Tigerdillos. Just about when they were going to go on, he suddenly disappeared. (This was the match where he was going to impress Korra in the canon, so he still doesn't know she was the Avatar.)

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample: Mako opened his eyes and looked around him in surprise. Where was the Pro-bending Arena and everyone else? He looked down and saw that he was still in his red and white Fire Ferrets uniform. He began to walk down a busy street filled with people and yellow cars, bearing the name "Taxi", very tall skyscrapers surrounding them. Mako didn't recognize any of the buildings or scenery around him. How did I get here? he wondered. He was starting to feel a little claustrophobic, so he slipped down a small, dark alleyway. He sunk down to his knees, putting his face in his hands.
"I have to get back to the match!" Mako told himself with determination, sternly forbidding himself to feel defeated.
He pushed himself back up to his feet and was about to make his way out of the alley when he saw him. A woman that looked to be in her twenties in black with lush, dark blonde hair was standing a few yards away from him. She had a welcoming smile on her face.
"Where am I and how did I get here?" Mako asked her before she could say anything, not even thinking about introducing himself to the stranger.
"You got shifted to a place called New York City," she began. "You are a Victim of Reality Displacement and I'm here to take you to the Tenebrae Estates."
Make just stared at her blankly, not knowing what to make of this. He had no idea what the woman in black was talking about, and all he knew was that he needed to get back to the match. One other thing he knew was that he didn't trust her
"Just follow me, please," she said sweetly, starting to turn back around to the busy street. Mako stood still for a couple of seconds before trying to thrust fire balls at her feet. He glanced down at his hand after he failed to firebend, an uneasy feeling washing over him.
"What happened to my firebending?" He said this so quietly that she probably had trouble hearing him, especially over the noise of the busy city.
"No questions are allowed, I'm afraid. Just follow me so I can help you."
