The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB: Kim Petras
Appearance: Considering Viking women still kind of look like men, Astrid is like a rare jewel found among a pile of rocks. However, just because she is thin and pretty for a viking does not make her weak or unable to fight, for she is anything but a damsel in distress! She has blonde hair with long bangs that cover the left side of her forehead, a braided ponytail that reaches her shoulder blades on her back, and usually wears a leather headband on her forehead. Her eyes are blue.
Astrid wears a skirt that is covered in spikes with leggings underneath, and a belt that is embellished with little bird like skulls and on her right hip is a little pouch (for essentials?). On her shoulders are matching skull emblazoned shoulder blades, and she has wraps that start at her wrist and end all the way up to her elbow. Astrid is hardly ever seen without her battle axe, which is also happens to be a precious gift from her mother.
Personality: Astird is extremely dedicated and determined when it comes to the things that are important to her; such as becoming a viking warrior, fighting dragons in the war, and then later helping Hiccup train them. She puts 300% of herself into such things because she wants to be the best at what she does. This also gives makes her very competitive, but she is not a sore loser.
Similar to Hiccup, Astrid is a bit of loner. Sure she is friends with all the other teens, but she prefers to study and train on her own (which has made her the third most knowledgeable about dragons among the teens), never really engaging in things the others did like picking on and taunting Hiccup whenever he did something wrong. She also tends to be a bit aloof in this way as well, keeping her emotions to herself and hiding a bit behind those bangs of hers.
Also like Hiccup, Astrid is open-minded. Perhaps not at first, where she was more a traditional take it down with an axe and then lob it's head off kind of girl, but after meeting Toothless. She is intelligent, but in a completely different way than Hiccup, more in the terms of battle experience and socializing than anything else.
Astrid has a short fuse and can be quite violent at times, but she also has a softer and more caring side as well. This side is usually more prominent when around the people she cares deeply for, such as Hiccup, Toothless, and her own dragon, Stormfly. Astrid also tends to be suspicious and has a tendency to get jealous at times.
She is extremely loyal to her friends and tribe, serious, and can be quite hard to please. She is also the voice of reason, and she often provides advice in the form called The Honey and the Hatchet; "you tell someone what they want to hear, the honey part, before you hit 'em in the head with something they don't, the hatchet part." However, that doesn't mean that she doesn't have a playful side either, and she will tease her friends (especially Hiccup) in a bit more of a tactful manner.
Well... except maybe for Snotlout.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Astrid was the star pupil of Dragon Training, who had done all her studying by reading the Dragon Book, and battle training; prepared to take the Monstrus Nightmare by the horns so to speak. She wasn't necessarily thrilled to see that Stoick had put his boy Hiccup into training with the other teens, but that did not change the outcome. Astrid was still going to come out on top.
However, while listening to Gobber and the kid talk about dragons in a watch tower, she notices Hiccup leave without saying anything, which begins to make her curious. Curiosity becomes suspicion though during the third lesson, where Hiccup miraculously backs a Hideous Zippleback back into it's cage. Lesson after lesson and Hiccup is getting better and better with controlling dragons, and Astrid, now jealous and frustrated, unable to figure out what was making Hiccup, normally the not so good at anything, suddenly such an expert! She even started trying to follow him to figure out his secret.
Eventually it was just Astrid and Hiccup left in the race to see who would win Dragon Training and get the opportunity to kill the Monstrous Nightmare in front of the entire tribe. They were facing a Gronckle. Despite of Astrid warning Hiccup to stay out of her way, he immobilizes the Gronckle within seconds and win the right to kill the dragon.
More determined than ever to find out his secret, Astrid follows him to the grotto and begins to interrogating Hiccup. Toothless thinks she is a threat and charges, and Astrid react just as violently by readying her axe, and Hiccup gets between them; ripping Astrid's axe away and stopping Toothless mid-pounce. She realizes then that Hiccup is a traitor to the Hooligan tribe, befriending the enemy, and infuriated she runs off to tell the other villagers. However, she doesn't get far before Hiccup and Toothless snatch her right out of the forest and put her in a tree.
He wanted to explain but she didn't want to hear it, unfortunately though, with no option of getting down other than joining Hiccup on Toothless, she is convinced in letting Hiccup show her. Hiccup tells Toothless to let them down gently, but the dragon is distrustful of Astrid, and suddenly takes off in a flurry of speed and a great show of dives and twirls until Astrid apologizes. Then he finally relaxes and stops, and takes the two teens on a flight above the clouds and around the Island of Berk. Amazed, Astrid now see that she was wrong about Toothless... and about Hiccup.
During the end of the flight, Toothless suddenly flies to parts unknown and the two teens find themselves in a flock of dragons carrying their kill towards the Dragon's Nest. Inside the two discover why the dragons steal and raid from the villagers, to feed a monster that dwells in the depths of their home and avoid getting eaten themselves. Astrid wants to tell the villagers as soon as they get back, but Hiccup disagrees. Impressed by Hiccup's persistence and loyalty, she agrees and trusts Hiccup in figuring something out during his final exam tomorrow.
Unfortunately, the final exam ends up in a disaster, and the vikings capture Toothless and set sail in search of the Dragons Nest. Astrid comes to Hiccup and tries to comfort him, and asks why he didn't kill Toothless when he first saw him. Satisfied with his answer, she then motivates him to save the tribe and do something crazy. Rounding up the other students, they all go to Hiccup and he teaches them how to ride and control their own dragons, and they all fly off to help in the battle against the Red Death.
Astrid and the Deadly Nadder nearly end up eaten and is knocked off her Deadly Nadder, but thankfully Hiccup, now reunited with Toothless, comes to her aid. She watches anxiously on the side lines as Hiccup and Toothless fight the dragon, and send it plummeting to it's doom in a massive, fiery explosion. She is devastated when it's over and she thinks that Hiccup has died, and is overjoyed when she hears Stoick say that Toothless brought Hiccup back alive... or at least most of him.
Now Astrid is a member of Berk's Dragon Training Academy, and often tries to help Hiccup with every misadventure and danger that the two of them face, while continuously trying to compete with him in both speed and aerial displays with her dragon, Stormfly.
Key Moment: After Mildew has accused a rogue dragon of destroying the Great Hall and the teens have been forced to banish their dragons from Berk and bring them back to Dragon Island.

A Roleplaying Shift
RP Sample:
Strolling through the village center with a sash that said D.U.M.B in the middle of the night was not Astrid's first thought when asked what she would like to do for fun. No, this was a Hiccup idea, and well... you know what they say about Hiccup ideas.
The night was cool (but it always was on the Island of three seasons; winter, mild winter, and devastating winter), and the ocean wind was gentle as it wafted gently, carrying the crisp scent of a sleeping ocean and lightly disturbing the blonde's bangs as she walked. Astrid brushed them from her face, boots crunching on the frozen grass underneath her. The village was silent, all the Vikings now in their houses for the night. She could see the dim orange light of the fires from under the door, some flickering and as the fire died, other still glowing vibrant against the dark blue blanket night that had settled upon the Island when the sun had disappeared over the horizon.
As she passed her own house she could see the pale blue tail of her dragon, Stormfly, sleeping soundly in the stable. It was a stable that Astrid had built herself, and had been determined to finish without the help of anyone. Partly to prove that she was strong enough to do it on her own, and partly because Stormfly was her dragon that she was responsible for. Astrid stepped off her path so she could come closer to the stable and just make out her dragon's sleeping form, nestled in a ball with it's chest rising and falling gently. There was a slight warmth inside of her as she watched her Deadly Nadder, a kind smile tugging at her lips.
However, there was still a job to do. Astrid tip-toed away as quietly as she could, resuming her trek among the town. That was at least one dragon accounted for! Now she just needed to keep her eyes open for any-
Astrid's heart lept into her throat as a loud screech sounded from behind her. Immediately her hand went to her mother's axe, a comfortable weight that was always nestled against her hip, and she yanked it up. Her blue eyes hardened like ice, and she held her weapon at the ready, whole body tense and coiled in preparation for a fight. She scanned the area quickly, feeling her heart thundering in her chest so violently that it could have rivaled Thor's anger itself, and her body was hot and alive with the adrenaline and the thrill of a fight.
What she expected was that rogue dragon Mildew had accused of stealing everyone's boots. What she hadn't expected was to see one of her friends running towards her, screaming and with his arms flailing.
Astrid's brows lifted in surprise. "Fishlegs!?"
Fishlegs skidded to a half stop, panicking and jittery like a terrified Terrible Terror. He was rambling on and on without taking a breath, spitting out gibberish that she was probably supposed to interpret as a warning or something, before taking off again. Astrid turned her head to watch him run, all that hype she had felt physically deflating from her as she slowly lowered her axe, watching Fishlegs until he disappeared into the darkness of the night.
She turned back to try and figure out and decipher what it was that had terrified her friend so (but she had her suspicions on the Twins being behind it), but there was a sudden flash of light that was so bright and blinding, the she was forced to lift her arm and shield her face. When the light began to faded Astrid slowly lowered her arm again, blinking rapidly to try and stop the burning behind her eyes and focus again. And her eyes widened as her arm dropped and hung limply by her side in shock.
Well, wherever she was, it certainly wasn't Berk. The buildings were far too different, the people staring back at her even more so, and the most important and most obvious indicator, it was day time! Day time! Astrid furrowed her brows, knuckles tightening around the axe that was still half raised in her hands until they were white, a panic starting to settle in. She would probably feel foolish for looking like a mad woman appearing in the middle of a village center with her weapon raised, but for now her mother's axe was providing her with a familiar comfort.
Suddenly one of the strangers stepped foreword, dressed oddly in black, but a friendly smile on his face. "Hello, miss."
Astrid narrowed her eyes suspiciously at this stranger, flexing her hands on her axe. A soft flare of anger began to grow inside of her now, fueled by her confusion and her fear.
The man continued to smile pleasantly. "Don't worry! I'm here to help you. I'm sure you probably have a lot of questions--"
Oh, did she ever. Astrid's suspicion became a glare now. "Oh, you definitely have some explaining to do," she interrupted, twirling her axe around in her hands and pointing it directly at the strangers neck. "Starting with who you are and how I got here!"
Yet the stranger seemed hardly affected by her threatening demeanor, in fact, his smile seemed to become even more pleasant; as if that was even possible. "Yes, yes. All will be explained if you just come with me."
The blonde didn't look very thrilled by this idea, her lips pursed in obvious distaste. However, if she wanted answers than she wasn't exactly sure if she had much choice. It would be completely foolish to reject this strangers help and try and wonder through this strange place on her own. Besides, if this man was lying and had other intentions in mind, then he was going to be in for a rude awakening. So, after a long moment of thoughtful and tense silence, she relented, lowering her axe and safely securing it back to her hip.
She crossed her arms and glared expectantly at this stranger. "Alright, lead the way."
