The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB
Alex Pettyfer
Appearance: Canada does actually look a lot like his brother (he even gets mistaken for him, a lot) but where America is very out there and likes everybody looking at him, Canada tends to shy back and doesn't mind staying out of the way and out of the limelight. Even though the two are the same height and build, Canada tends to give the impression of being much smaller, because America is so much larger than life.
His blonde hair is usually kept quite long (possibly so he can hide behind it when he lets his bangs fall in front of his face) and it has a slight curl to it, taking after France's own waves.
His eyes - formerly a striking violet and now a much more ordinary blue - are hidden behind his glasses, and occasionally his hair, and more often than not are staring awkwardly at the ground anyway.
He favours casual clothing, jeans and hoodies mostly, comfortable clothes that blend into the background.
Personality: Canada is sweet, kind and incredibly shy. He's a very sensitive person who likes to make other people happy, and almost always puts other people before himself. He's very calm and relaxed most of the time, being incredibly laid back about a lot of things - although when he gets angry he can be very vicious, it doesn't often come out because he hates fighting, but it's particularly noticeable when he plays hockey.
He's used to people not noticing him or forgetting who he is, though it still makes him a little sad from time to time, he usually takes it in his stride. Most of the time he just lets people get on with things and is content to sit back and stay in the background, though sometimes he does get a little frustrated when he tries to make a point and nobody notices him - he's just too polite to be more forthcoming about it.
He'll be more vocal once he gets to know somebody better, and he's a lot more outgoing and talkative around people he's close with - America being the prime example - though it takes him a little while to get to that point, mostly because he's too shy to get to know people easily. Still, whether you're a friend or an enemy, at least you know he's going to be nice to you.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History: Canada's exact age is hard to determine because, like his brother, he was on his own for quite a while before he was discovered by anybody else. He isn't exactly sure how long it was, but eventually France came along to take care of him. There was less of an argument over him, perhaps because England was already busy caring for America, so for many of his early years he was brought up almost entirely by France - although England occasionally stuck his nose in whenever he was visiting America. As the years went by, England became more and more involved in his life, and he fell mostly under British control - particularly after America had struck off on his own and declared independance.
Canada was dragged into things in the war of 1812 between Britain and America, much as he didn't want to be, as the closest British territory to America his house was pretty much the best base of operations. Several years after that, in 1867, he declared independance himself. Sort of. It was more like he declared himself. He was still kind of under British control, but at least he was a country of his own. Since he was still in the empire, he got dragged into the world wars as well - even though almost everything he did, England claimed credit for, and he spent the whole time being pretty ignored, but he was kind of used to that by then.
A few years after the war he finally managed to get properly independant... well, mostly. He was too nice to really want to break away completely from England, especially when he saw how much it hurt the other nation when America declared his independance, so though he does his own thing and England doesn't really have any control over him anymore, he still keeps England's queen as his own.
In the modern day, he still helps out around the world and gets involved in world affairs, though it often goes unnoticed. He's content to help out where he can and look after his people.
Key Moment: The preparations for Canada day were well underway and Matthew was getting excited that his birthday was coming up. At least his people celebrated, even if all of his friends tended to forget. Maybe America would remember this year, but he hadn't seen him in a while and he was usually busy preparing for his own birthday. He'd just been listening to his boss make plans for the parade when the Shift happened.

He wasn't normally the type to fall asleep in meetings, even though he could totally get away with it most of the time since nobody really noticed him anyway, and this meeting was one he definitely didn't want to miss - after all, they were making plans for his birthday, why would he want to miss that? Still, for a split second he honestly thought that was what had happened, all he did was blink. He closed his eyes and when he opened them, he was somewhere else. Had he fallen asleep? Was he dreaming?
He sat up a little more fully in the chair he'd found himself in, what looked like a mall food court. One or two people were giving him strange looks, trying to figure out if he'd been there a moment ago, and a young man in a black suit was making his way through the chairs, apparently straight for him.
Canada ignored the man heading his way at first, he had learnt to assume that people probably weren't actually looking for him when they seemed to be, it was always somebody just behind him. Instead, he pinched his arm, frowning at the resulting pain, and stood up, looking for some indication of what was going on.
"Excuse me?" the suited man had stopped right next to him now, and Canada looked round in surprise, glancing either side of him to confirm that yes, he was actually talking to him.
"Can I help you?" he asked politely.
"I'm from Tenebrae estates, I'm afraid I have to tell you that this isn't your world, you've been brought her by an unknown force. We're working to get you and people like yu back to their homes. May I ask who you are?"
"I'm Canada," he sighed faintly, before the words really sunk in and he stared at the man.
"Wait, what did you say?"
"This isn't your home. Canada... you're a country? We have several others from your world here I think, please come with me and I'll explain everything more fully. Also, we will need a more ordinary name, for our records."
"Oh, of course," he nodded, because the politeness just came naturally "Matthew, Matthew Williams."
