The Outside and the In
Face Claim/PB:
Paul Boche
Appearance:
Despite not being the tallest fellow, standing at 5'11" - just short of six feet - Yuri cuts an imposing figure. He is lithely built, wiry muscles with lanky limbs, definitely athletic but more akin to a gymnast than a quarterback. While not bulky, his impeccably straight posture lends him a severe air that calls for attention and respect. Combine that with his penchant to always dress in formal wear and one would be forgiven for assuming him to be some figure of authority. It is rare to see him in any sort of color as he prefers to keep his clothing monochrome, sticking to the standard blacks and greys for his suit jackets and slacks along with white dress shirts. He does buck this trend in a small way though, as he has an eccentric choice in ties, usually opting for silk ones with abstract blue and green geometric patterns.
While he does maintain a very professional appearance, Yuri likes to wear his hair long. This matched with the structure of his facial features, high cheek bones and full lips, give him an effeminate appearance. The blonde of his hair pairs well with the piercing blue of his eyes. Rarely seen by others, there is a large burn scar over the center of his face, in the shape of a hand print. He uses foundation to keep it hidden while in public, and perhaps it's from that foray into cosmetics that he has picked up the habit of wearing purple lip gloss.
Personality:
One of the most fundamental things to understand about Yuri is that he is exceedingly two-faced. There is the public Yuri and the private Yuri, and if he had his way, never will the two meet.
On the surface, Yuri appears to be a very stand-up citizen. He is hardworking and dedicated to his vocation as someone who upholds the law. On top of that, he is also extremely personable and polite, if a bit cool at times. He has no problem maintaining conversations and discussing issues with others, albeit he doesn't seem to truly connect. Essentially he has perfected the act of being normal, maintaining the facade of being a productive member of society. He is great at nourishing professional relationships, but when people attempt to delve deeper, there's always a good work related excuse or three to help maintain his wall.
Beneath the pretty mask he shows the world, trouble brews. What many don't realize is that Yuri takes his dedication to extreme lengths, pushing it over the edge to devout fanaticism. Many aspects of his life suffer in his pursuit to further his ideals, the most prominent being his sleep schedule and his social endeavors. He gets very little rest, as one might note by the dark circles often lurking underneath his eyes. At a very young age he learned that one should never let injustice go unpunished, and as he grew older, that sentiment has blossomed into something very large and dangerous. Combined with his analytical mind, his loyalty to what he deems proper justice can be quite a scary thing.
Having been the direct cause of his father's death is something that has shaped Yuri as a man. He experiences an odd blend of guilt and satisfaction at what he did, a strange sort of paradox, really. The act of killing Mr. Legend, a hero, was horrible and he recognizes this, but on the other hand, it did save his mother. Often times, late at night, he is confronted by the spectre of his father and assaulted by the one question that plagues him constantly: is he doing the right thing? The only way Yuri knows how to cope is to continue to push forward, and doggedly pursue the goal of eradicating and punishing the evil of the world. Every criminal must be sentenced and hear the voice of Thanatos before their final judgement, just as he will.
All in all, Yuri has a hard time expressing his true feelings as well trusting people. He much prefers to bottle things up and keep things concealed rather than let anyone in to see his instabilities and eccentricities. While in his Lunatic uniform however, he becomes very loose and open, free to taunt and express his philosophies without fear.

Right Up to that Key Moment
History:
For a while Yuri had a happy childhood and a close relationship with his parents. He got his strong sense of justice and morals from his father Mr. Legend, who was Sternbild City's first NEXT hero. However, when his father's powers began to dwindle, the man turned to drinking and soon became violent with his mother. It was a very traumatic time period for Yuri, who was torn apart by watching his father's downward spiral. Not only was his mother the victim of abuse, but he was losing his biggest role model.
During one particularly harsh beating, Yuri pushed himself to intervene, drawing on the lessons his father ingrained in him: never turn a blind eye to evil. Stepping into the fray, he tries to stop his father from hurting his mother anymore. It was at this time his NEXT powers awakened, and he ended up setting his father's arm on fire. Mr. Legend grabbed his face and he soon panicked, setting the rest of the man on fire. His father ended up dying from the wounds.
When he graduated high school, he decided to go to college with a focus in law. Shortly after getting his degree he began serving as a judge in the Administration of Justice. Frustrated with all of the red tape attached to his job, he decided to mete out his own justice outside of the boundaries of law. In NC 1977, he made his first appearance as the vigilante Lunatic.
With the rise and popularity of NEXT-powered superheroes thanks to such things as HeroTV however, such a flagrant display of ideals obviously did not go over well. He clashed with the heroes of Sternbild City, though he had no dispute with them - they were simply getting in his way.
Key Moment: While broadcasting a monologue to the heroes' radio units during a siege against a criminal hold out, something went horribly wrong. He leveled his crossbow at Barnaby Brooks Jr. when out of nowhere the world spun. At first he thought he was under attack, but that proved to be the least of his problems. (For any possible canon mates, specifically the end of episode 7.)

"Hear the voice of Thanatos..."
The conviction in his voice wavered slightly by the time the words dropped from his tongue. His surroundings had shifted mid-statement. He had felt the change deep in his bones, a bizarre twist of reality but it all happened so quickly, so very fast that he hadn't even the chance to stop his declaration. Slowly, Yuri lowered his arm. His hand was empty, his crossbow gone. That wasn't the strangest thing, either. His gaze drifted out over the edge of the roof he was atop, and scanned the horizon. The skyline was completely different than Sternbild City's. What on earth was going on? Inwardly, Yuri's mind was whirling a million miles an hour, trying to piece together what had happened.
Externally however, his face was a calm, placid mask, not even the furrow of a brow to indicate the worry that was roiling beneath the surface. The distant sound of footsteps made him tense, lithe muscles coiled tightly in a reflexive fight or flight posture. With a creak, the doorway to the roof stairwell opened and out poured a group of calm, well-dressed individuals. Yuri cocked his head to the side slightly, long blonde hair -- blonde? his hair was normally a matte grey/silver, he filed that way for later thought -- blowing in front of his vision thanks to an errant breeze. Splaying the fingers of one hand, he was alarmed to note that no blue-green flame sparked in his palm. There was definitely a small temperature difference between the surface of his skin and the cool evening air, but that really didn't do him much good, now did it?
"Sir, please remain calm. We are here to help. Why don't you tell us who you are and where you are from?"
His blue eyes narrowed, immediately drifting over to a man in a dark suit with an authoritative posture. He was vastly outnumbered, and while that would have been no problem had his NEXT powers been cooperating...He was caught disarmed and disorientated. It didn't take him long to decide that his best bet would be to play along so he had time to figure out what in the world was going on.
"Yuri Petrov. I am a representative of Sternbild City's Hall of Justice. Who are you?" He retorted calmly, voice evenly toned, almost deadpan.
"Please come with us, Mr. Petrov. We will explain everything on the way."
That sounded like a trap, and the hair on the back of his neck stood on end as he squinted warily at the group of strangers. There wasn't much choice though, and with the plan to play along to get information...Yuri nodded slowly, and stepped forward to follow the Tenebrae representative.
